Yoko Redux: Dreams of a Blue Planet

Picked up this game without knowing anything about it and I really liked it. It's a classic point and click adventure game in a cyberpunk setting. Apparently the first Yoko Redux was a gamejam game, and this is the sequel/expansion? Something like that. I'm glad I got it, it was a fun world to explore. [b]Pros:[/b] Gorgeous aesthetic (so unique), good writing, varied puzzle difficulty (two really stumped me, the rest were workable), great music and VO. [b]Cons:[/b] Lots of walking back and forth (which is typical for an adventure game, so I wasn't too bothered by it), bad/frustrating pathing in a couple of places (getting on and off the subway was a whole thing), and I would have liked an option to turn off the scramble text effect. I didn’t quite understand the story, possibly because I didn’t play the first one. It got kinda metaphysical at the end. But I got the gist of it, and it was a cool game. Took me about 4 hours to beat. I did hit one game blocking bug, but restarting the level fixed it. Though early in it's development, Yoko Redux has potential to be a really engaging point-and-click. The method of objective assignment is engaging, and there's not really a hand-hold that tells you exactly where to go or who to talk to; you have to figure that out on your own. The art style, while difficult to read at times, is engaging in its execution and really helps the gameplay by identifying the interactable objects in the scene in a very clear, if sometimes *loud*, way. The human voice acting could absolutely use some work, as the main character has a tendency to sound wooden and unengaged, while also not sounding like a digitized robot, which is the implication of the world. I'm looking forward to the release of future episodes, for sure.

Lovely game. Just a shame that the subtitles has to be scrambled before it rearranges itself into proper readable text. Not a fan of the feature and I wish that we could turn it off.

Pros - Great Jazz soundtrack - Interesting low poly shinty graphics with reduced pallet. It works for atmosphere although does make navigation a bit tricky. - Great voice acting for the main protagonists, obviously the rest of the cast with the AI voice acting is a bit grating with all of the incorrect pronunications. I assume that was intended. - The game-play was very basic without really any puzzles. It was mostly talk to character A, talk to character B and then back to character A kind of thing. Reminds me a bit of how the wajetEye games have evolved. Still it makes the game flow along nicely with no possibility of getting stuck. Cons - A bit too sureal for my taste. To be honest I don't really understand the game really at all. That might be my fault though. Overall I'm going to give it a recomend because despite the story being over my head and navigation being fustrating at times, it was still quite engaging.
