✦ AI summary

Players are divided on this game. Some praise the engaging deck-building and mahjong hybrid gameplay, comparing it favorably to roguelike hits like Slay the Spire and Balatro, with several reporting it consumed their entire day. However, others express frustration about the pervasive use of AI-generated assets—particularly voice acting that sounds robotic and lifeless, plus concerns that AI elements (like the main menu song) appear to contradict developer claims about limiting AI to early conceptual stages, leading some to feel misled and to seek refunds.

This game is really fun, I loved it. However, the developers have clearly and obviously begun to use more and more genai in the development, with the newest DLC having characters that are barely cleaned up from their aigen models. I don't know if they always used ai in the character art, I don't remember there being any ai discloser when I bought it, but it's there now. However, I find the description of what they used it for suspect, as the newer art looks SIGNIFICIENTLY more like genai slop, and it makes me really sad that a game I enjoyed, that appeared to not need this slop, has started to lean on it so strongly. I'm not going to try and request a refund, cause I had my fun with it and I'm just going to move on, maybe one day they'll come back and replace all the assets and apologize for their use, but as of right now, I can't recommend this game.
Great premise marred by an acrid taste
This is a strange game which presents itself like a mahjong balatro synthesis, and to some degree they are successful in that regard. You are tasked with making hands, finding combos then abusing the mechanics for massive profit in points and I've certainly had fun doing so. There are many roads to victory and many small Aha! moments that lead to a better understanding of this game. That being said the onboarding, descriptions and general QoL are severely lacking especially in English. The translations for most of the game are technically legible but have distinct issue with syntax and ambiguous terms that have to be interpreted by the player to make sense. This confusion is compounded when text overruns in the UI elements and overlaps onto other text. Through brute force I managed to piece together some of the poorly explained mechanics and gotten to a decent level of competence but not without many frustrating encounters where an effect didn't occur as I expected. Not to mention the initial learning curve and first few levels are inordinately difficult without any upgrades. This is a tragedy because I have gotten to a point wh…

It's literally the Balatro of mahjong. Your tile values are multiplied by your hand and then by a mult modifier. Numbers go up, monkey brain happy. Collect relics and figurines to fit your build. It's more "cerebral" than Balatro, but that is actually a good thing, it feels more mentally stimulating and rewarding. Don't worry about learning the rules of mahjong, the tutorial kinda goes through it quickly, but you'll learn as you go

Very fun game of rogue-like Mahjong. Truly a fun cast of character with plenty of assets to enjoy. (If only there were more animations per character. nonetheless appreciated designs.) If you don't understand or know Mahjong, the game does well to get you started. Overall between match gameplay and rogue-like pathing mechanics, this game is quite enjoyable..

So I thought I knew a decent amount of how to play mahjong. This game was so ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ bad with it's onboarding experience that I'm more confused than I was before, and trying to research rules for mahjong isn't really here in the game and outside sources have informed me that there is an extensive amount of variation in mahjong that makes it impossible to find out what the specific rules are. It feels like if I was playing yugioh using cards with only the artwork and numbers with no description of what the cards actually did and everyone was using magic the gathering descriptions for all of their effects. So just to see what's going on, maybe others played this and it has special rules, maybe it's the fact the onboarding experience is literally having a monotone ai like voice drone on about every rule in a continuous period before GIVING YOU A QUIZ WITH NO HELP AND KICKING YOU INTO THE GAME. I just assumed that okay this is for people already familiar with this type of mahjong, which turns out that not only is it specifically for people who know everything about this game beforehand, but that I didn't imagine the fact everything in this game is ai generated. Turns out using online …
