Angeline Era

This review is mostly to address anyone how has played the demo. The game is okay, there's nothing particularly wrong about it but a lot of the more surrealistic/weird aspects that were common on the 1-2 hours long demo are way sparser and spread out and milder, more of that was what I was looking forward to and unfortunately it doesn't deliver in that regard, otherwise a fine game.

The first boss already sets the tone for the game and reveals that the developer has no idea on how to create quality engagements. Difficult to parse hitboxes aside, it feels like the boss battle is created with the harder difficulties in mind first and then the normal difficulty is tacked on by increasing player's health a little. The result is that the new player is actively punished by playing slow and learning the patterns because rushing down the boss during i-frames is so much easier. The rushdown victory feels hollow and at the same time mastering the fight offers little enjoyment due to the difficulty spike, general wonkiness of the combat & the lack of reward for doing so

Hoesntly the best thing I can say about this game. Is that the soundtrack is legendary!!!!! XD

Huge fan of the work of Analgesic productions since the first Anodyne, and they knocked it out of the park with the one. It's a mashup of so many genres that it's also something completely new. Scratched these itches for me: - Precision platforming - Legend of Zelda - Weird Biblical themes - Bomberman Hero gameplay and smooth jams I only have two real complaints. First, I thought the mining minigame, while an ambitious pivot, was overall somewhat tedious and repetitive. It was certainly spooky and had a lot to offer, but it was perhaps an hour too long. Second, there is a "point of no return" warning message, but I didn't realize it was going to be a fairly long point of no return with three hard bosses and lots of cutscenes. I definitely would have upgraded a couple of more things had I realized how long the endgame was. So, uh, I guess you guys should've really, really warned me instead. Regardless, it's incredible and worth your time if you're a fan of video games.
