About The Fermi Paradox

✦ AI summary

Guide up to 10 alien civilizations through millennia of branching choices that shape their technology, morality, and ultimate fate as they search for contact among the stars. Every decision cascades across centuries with 400 unique story events, creating a different galactic saga each playthrough where civilizations may unite, war, or perish never knowing they weren't alone.

The Fermi Paradox is a choice-driven narrative strategy game in which you’ll guide alien civilizations that can thrive or simply survive through the ages, picking up radio signals from distant stars and finally making contact with one another by exploring the furthest corners of the galaxy.

  • Galactic God game: Play as galactic gardener rather than a single faction, guiding up to 10 civilizations simultaneously
  • Choice-driven gameplay: Every event presents three choices that change the course of history – every decision matters, and consequences ripple across millennia
  • Many unique alien species: From nightmarish deep sea creatures to graceful sapient plant-beings, there are even strange hairless mammals called Humans
  • 400 different civilization-development events: Each event tells its own story and provides new choices that impact the story of that civilization – be it apocalyptic floods, sexual revolutions or conscious interstellar warships
  • Distinctive societies within starships and colonies: Life on a generation ship or on an unknown planet poses different challenges and special narrative events
  • Original electronic ambient soundtrack: Music playfully follows the evolutionary steps of developing civilizations and their spiritual, technological, and energetic trajectories.
  • Play again and again: Each play-through tells a different story and has its own ending. Will the people of that galaxy unite? Will they wipe out one another in a galactic war? Or will they perish, still alone, never really knowing that other alien life forms existed?
  • Twitch Integration: Let your Twitch audience vote on story choices in the game.

Become the galactic gardener!

Guide the fate of different planets, species and civilizations. Balance technological progress, military aggression and resource waste so that alien societies survive long enough to make contact with other species.

Choices matter

Alien societies grow and develop on their own – but you can alter the path of their development during crucial moments of social upheaval. How will society change when animals are domesticated, world wars break out or if civilizations begin cloning their own people?

Foster multiple alien civilizations

Develop societies from the Stone Age to technological singularity and beyond. How will they treat their own, and what will their beliefs be? What message will their first radio waves sent out into the cosmos contain? What are their intentions when travelling thousands of years by interstellar spaceships to another star?

Write the galaxy’s story

Each play-through will become a unique interstellar saga. From the first decision of which lifeforms will evolve into sapient species, there will be numerous choices determining the history and values of that civilization – from their views on sexuality and religion to their treatment of weaker members of society.

Overcome the long distances of space

Multiple generations will live out their days on starships seeking other habitable planets, while radio signals may echo unnoticed for millennia before they reach anyone that might listen. Of course, the society that sent out a signal may have already perished, and the starship answering their call might arrive only to find alien ruins. Elsewhere, distant colonies may develop into civilizations light-years ahead of the inhabitants of their home planet.

Keep the Balance

Each technological age brings its own challenges, from nuclear war to climate catastrophe, to murderous artificial intelligence. Experience the fragility of the universe, the dangers of military power and how peace might be wrought amongst countless intersecting cultures across the galaxy.

Content Warning: This is a game about the rise and fall of civilizations. This includes themes of war; oppression; and atrocities.

✦ AI summary

The Fermi Paradox is a strategy game with an interesting concept that some players keep returning to, but it suffers from lack of developer support, feature-bare gameplay despite its promising premise, and technical issues including display problems on certain resolutions. Players note that while species cosmetics are diverse, the actual mechanical differences between them are minimal and underdeveloped, making gameplay feel limited. The consensus suggests waiting for significant updates or improvements before investing time, as the game appears to be in a stagnant state.

As other recent reviews have pointed out, this game seems to have lost support. That being said, its current state wasn't too dissimilar to how it was on release, though that's not exactly for the better. This game has a lot of potential in its concept, but even ignoring small grievances, (such as the flare system, (which was improved over the demo, to be fair,) needing to zoom in on every planet to check civilization stats, etc.,) it's annoyingly feature-bare. The diversity of options isn't really noticed beyond implication; aquatic species don't really have much bearing beyond making it slightly harder to track their progress, machine empires aren't actually all that fun to play with, the variety of species selectable are amazing but purely cosmetic, and contact events between species are- while unique- boring and read out as unreasonable. While it wasn't optimal gameplay, you can sacrifice the morality of every species to have them all avoid extinction more or less permanently and still have a little wiggle room. What's more, unlike what the demo would have implied, having a species naturally drop to zero population triggers an event where you can spend some of your flux (in-g…

Great game for the price. I enjoyed my time with it as a story generator more than trying to "win". The stories I told my girlfriend of all the different paths the civilizations were taking and events happening to them made her want to get the game as well. I will warn it is rough around the edge and you need to work with it as you learn the concepts to get the best out of it but even then for 20 dollars I had fun and come back to it every so often. To counter any abandonware talk this game has been in development for awhile and they do have slow updates. I know to some that could be a drag but I don't mind, i can come back when something big is added play around enjoy the moments and come back later. All in all I recommended it. It's not perfect but it's a good game with great potential

Honestly this is a great game and I recommend you at least give a try, the art is great, the music is good, concepts brought up in the game are good, and its mostly very relaxing except for the last.. half an hour? when you got multiple star civilizations going, also, its just really fun seeing how the art of a species changes through the ages

I remember liking this game but I just went to play I couldn't read the text as soon as an option popped up. Though the resolution said 3440x1340 it did not display correctly. With these issues I can't recommend the game.
