Coffee Talk Episode 2: Hibiscus & Butterfly

A generally... average visual novel with semi-engaging characters that act as ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ awful societal metaphors. Spoilers ahead for this game and minor spoilers for the first game. The first game's characters who were metaphors for race issues weren't great. I can't comment on them too much because I'm white. But oh my god, as a queer person I can recognise that Silver is a really bad trans metaphor that mixes itself with race issues and feeds into a really bad stereotype about trans people. Silver is an alien who is being chased by a FIRE agent. It couldn't be more obvious in the game that this is a comparison to ICE and immigration issues in the USA. That's fine. As well, Silver is pretty obviously transgender. He goes from being genderless and I guess formless in the first game to going by he/him pronouns, saying that his appearance and name change help him feel "truer to who he is", he's "becoming a little more me every day", he "saw himself in the mirror [one morning] and felt right", et cetera. This is also fine. Queer rep in games! The issue is when the two metaphors are conflated. The FIRE agent mentions at one point aliens who try to "pass as earthlings". "They were born a…

I don't know guys... Demo was very interesting and now with a full game, I'm 82 mins in and I get really bored.... Dialog's seems too long, boring and just there to waist your time....

i recommend both coffee talk 1 and 2 for their relaxing atmosphere, compelling dialogue, and relaxing coffee making. there are monsters, humans, and aliens in these games, so there is a little something for everyone, no matter what you like!

Cozy little game to chill to when you want to unwind and not have everything going on all at once. the stories told and how you can impact them (yet small) feels like your actually part of the story. playing with the VA mod made it so much better and much more alive so thank you to the community for that. overall 8/10

I bought this game at 9:00am, and couldn't put it down until I completed the story at 19:00pm! I love the vibe, chill and cozy, while still keeping you hooked on the characters and their individual stories. There isn't one that outshines the other, just each one kind of working together to form this beautiful melody of events. I could not recommend this game enough, especially if you played the first game and loved it!

Recommended. A cosy Seattle coffee-shop drama where elves, orcs and banshees bring their dilemmas to a patient barista, deepening a beloved formula rather than reinventing it, and the warmth lands. The full cast returns with richer, more humane arcs (a banshee chasing an opera career, an alien hive-mind learning loneliness, a vampire finding purpose through film photography), the lo-fi soundtrack and rainy pixel art do quiet, restorative work, and real-world recipes (zobo, STMJ, Spanish Sahara) root the fantasy. A social feed and daily short stories give each day texture. Brewing ambiguity is the friction: requests arrive as taste-and-mood riddles, the three-ingredient cap blocks intuitive answers like a honey latte, a latte-art etching layer is finicky, and a memory-based finale order refuses to count a demonstrably used ingredient. There is no fail state, only friendship points and reloads. Judge it as gentle bartender-as-therapist fiction and it earns its recommendation without reservation.
