Wish I could recommend a "maybe" on this one. Definitely a far cry from the brilliance of some of CHARON's other works like Menherafflesia or Cradle of Ruin, but it wasn't terrible. The strength of this game definitely lies in the endings, bad ending 2 and the true ending were pretty good. The game starts out strong and ends strong, but the midsection has some pretty glaring issues. Also, CHARON. Why does this game have like 10 songs but for 90% of the game only a single one plays. It gets absolutely grating after a couple of hours. What were they thinking.1 found this helpful
Probably my favorite CHARON game, or a close second next to Dice Psycho. Vanilla Garden has the main cast stuck in a mysterious house surronded by a forest, with an enigmatic girl, Vanilla, appearing every so often to be enigmatic and mysterious and cool to our main character. As the game goes on,
the cast progressively gets smaller,
and it does a very good job at creating a sense of solitude and unease. Theres also the CHARON trademark of almost every women in the cast being ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ insane, but theres some valid justification this time (looking at you, Dice Psycho) . The game has a few crazy twist and turns and probably some of the most gruesome and ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up bad ends I've seen in a CHARON game. I mean theres literally one part where
a women gets pummeled to death.
This is like the 2nd time this has happened in a CHARON game, but it still made me audibly voice out a "nooooo...". To me, this game is where CHARON's art style peaked, combining the rough/coarseness of their older games, like MenheRafflesia, while not being completely smooth/refined like Dice Psycho. Would I recommend this game? I'll give a heavy YES if you don't mind the stee…
