HAAK

Haak is a fun to play Metroidvania that much like the other Chinese made Metroidvania I’m aware of “ Nine sols” doesn’t entirely understand what makes a Metroidvania work. (This tendency is also shared by a bunch of US companies as well though so it’s not just a cultural thing. ) Both of these games seem to think a modern Metroidvania should be a story driven linear platformer. There’s little room in either game to explore an unfamiliar world. Especially in “Haak”, you’re constantly having checkpoints or timed events thrown at you. At least so far, there hasn’t been many opportunities to just explore which the game is lacking thus far. Another thing I find annoying is having a npc pop up and constantly offer you ways to make the game easier. Yes, I don’t mind “accessibility” settings but the fact that I was reminded of this option so much seems to speak to the devs being insecure about the hardness of the game. If so maybe balancing it better would have been more helpful than adding an anime girl npc. But the game is really enjoyable to play, the controls are responsive and it feels and looks slick. I just think people looking for a Metroidvania will ultimately be disappointed. …

This is an *AMAZING* Metroidvania game. I cannot recommend it enough. It has a fantastic play style, plenty of secrets, tons of exploring. Super Super good.

Certainly is a explorer platformer

Randomizing and clearing my backlog 59/343 Amazing little gem of a metroidvania/puzzle platformer. If nothing else comes up, I will push through on finishing it. But if I dont, dont let my playtime fool you. This game truly is amazing.
