About Demonizer

✦ AI summary

Demonizer is a 90s arcade-style bullet shooter where you play as a succubus princess fighting to save your monstergirl tribe by converting enemy soldiers into demonic allies through hypnosis and gunfire. Inspired by classic shmups like Raiden Fighters and Battle Garegga, it combines intense hand-crafted level design, pixel art visuals, and a FM synth soundtrack with a story that flips the script on traditional monster-slaying narratives.

The fantasy bullet battle to end monstergirl genocide! Turn hateful humans into lovable demons in this 90s arcade style shooter, inspired by Raiden Fighters, Strikers 1945, and Battle Garegga.

The exiled princess Amelia has turned into a succubus and joined the peaceful monstergirl tribe. Then invaders arrive led by her sister Angelina. Fighting back with her newfound powers of hypnosis and demonization she departs to take on the kingdom in a desperate bid to save her new people.
  • Seven challenging hand-crafted levels packed with beautiful pixel art - defend your forest, fight through towns, break monstergirls out of dungeons, race against cavalry and more
  • Battle fearsome enemy forces - masses of infantry and artillery, nimble swordsmen and assassins, tricky spellcasters and mighty magical constructs
  • Capture their souls - transform them into fellow demons and watch their powers grow with yours
  • Simple game systems reward natural and intuitive play - stay alive, shoot and bomb, and the rest will follow
  • Three difficulty levels - beginners, enthusiasts, and experts can all enjoy
  • Rock out to a gritty, stompy YM2612 FM synth soundtrack
  • Rich retro visual customization - portrait or landscape, low or high res, smooth or sharp pixels, stretch or no stretch
  • A twist on the old monster-slaying story - includes free digital comic book revealing events before the game

Demonizer is a retro-inspired vertical shoot 'em up that successfully combines fast-paced arcade action with an unexpectedly engaging fantasy storyline. Developed and published by Iori Branford, the game draws inspiration from classic shooters of the 1990s while introducing several unique mechanics that help it establish its own identity. Rather than focusing solely on score chasing and survival, Demonizer builds its gameplay around a narrative of rebellion, transformation, and loyalty, giving players a stronger sense of purpose throughout the campaign. The story follows Amelia, a former princess who has embraced life among a peaceful community of monstergirls after becoming a succubus herself. Her new existence is threatened when a human military force led by her sister launches an invasion against the tribe. This conflict forms the foundation of the adventure and provides a refreshing context for the action. While shoot 'em ups are rarely known for their storytelling, Demonizer makes a genuine effort to create memorable characters and a world worth protecting. The included lore and supplementary comic material further expand the setting, making the campaign feel more substantial…

Super fun shmup with unique art, world-building, and game design that deserves to be played by more people. Especially worth checking out if you enjoy the Touhou series for its story/lore/girls, or if you'd like a fresh take on old school classics from CAVE and Raizing like Ketsui and Battle Garegga.
