Oxygen

It pains me to write a negative review for this. Core gameplay is very solid, akin to Frostpunk in terms of being perfect balance between suffering and "I'm somehow alive" on normal difficulty. The problem is everything else. Game becomes repetitive real fast: - researching is slow as hell (I got all achievements in 15h, but I'm only half-way through the research-tree and I can't bother with the rest) - graphics are washed out like with a sepia filter. It actually hurts to look at it after few hours for me - technical bugs (e.g., resolution in settings could not work and you need to set DPI-ignore on .exe to fix it) - in-game bugs (like after reload task has no reward, or how I have Cathedral right next to a lot of houses, but people still have 0 spirituality, or how 1 Canteen worker just constantly dying for no reason in the sandstorm even though Oxygen is enabled for it) - QoL issues, like no way to prevent idle workers from building paths during sandstorm, or how workers just ignore paths and goes whenever they want, so you have to memorize their path and build road right there - balance feels out of place. Slow research, slow radars, radar-rng-gated buildings, confidence level…

I gave this one a shot. I actually like slow building games. The problem I have with it is that there comes a point where you're not improving your town, you're simply increasing the difficulty by building more. The goal posts to what you need will move in one direction, always higher. You are meant to fail. If you make 2k energy, you will need 3k. It's like those RPG's where all the enemies level up when you do, so you're basically leveling them up more than yourself. I never found a spot where I could feel achievement for maintaining a sustainable energy source. The weather always demanded more until, on the easy setting, it was impossible to keep up. I dunno, maybe there's like one specific way you're supposed to play this game in order to min\max it. Meh, not my thing.

I didn't expect a game this simple to keep me playing for so long. The core loop is basically just managing oxygen, moving around and figuring out how to make each run last a little longer, but it creates a surprisingly tense rhythm. Running low on oxygen while you're still trying to reach the next safe spot is the kind of pressure that makes even a small decision feel important. I also really like the atmosphere. The visuals are simple, but they give the game a cold, lonely feeling that fits the whole survival concept perfectly. The controls are straightforward and everything runs smoothly, so the challenge comes from the game itself rather than fighting the interface. It can get a little repetitive once you've figured out the basic routine, but I still found myself starting another run just to see if I could push a little further. Simple idea, nicely executed, and definitely worth trying if you like minimalistic survival games.

The game is good, meditative. But it’s unclear what to do with the children. 46 children out of 70 residents are just standing around and consuming resources.

i really wanted to enjoy this, however it got boring too fast, I've found myself falling asleep more then playing the actual game. maybe that's my fault. however for a building game i think i need some me hmm creative part, like decorating more stuff or something a bit more fun like two point museum, i absolutely love this games is so much fun.
