Zodiac Revenger

Zodiac Revenger features skillfully designed 2D action platforming levels coupled with a strange skill tree system. It plays great on Steam Deck. The levels take the best challenges from of all your favorite NES games but gives you infinite lives and fair checkpoints. You're able to collect two Mega Man style energy tanks to refill health along with other upgrades. A lot of these are unlocked by finding hidden items, and I know for a fact that I missed some of them before completing the game. Boss battles are pattern based affairs also in the style of Mega Man, but the attack loop is MUCH longer and more varied. My only real complaint was grappling with the skill system. Defeating a boss gives you one skill point to allocate to the skill tree, and certain bosses are pretty tough without unlocking certain abilities. The gun monkey in particular was pretty impossible without the destroy projectiles skill, so I had to leave the level and beat another boss. There's only a finite amount of skill points in the game, and if I hadn't unlocked the upward slash projectile attack I probably wouldn't have been able to finish the game at all.
