System Shock

If you enjoyed Prey or Bioshock, you absolutely need to play this

Amazing reboot, fun game (even if navigating Citadel Station feels like dragging your sac across concrete).

The Good: I like the main villain Shodan. Pretty good. I liked the reworked graphics and the music. Some of the tracks were great. I liked the cyber space sequences to open doors. The puzzles were good too. The Bad: Pretty standard survival horror RPG fare. Enemies were good but some had technical issues. Nothing major but could have used a bit more polish on some. The Ugly: They reworked the graphics but did nothing about the game's mechanics and gameplay flow. I tried to play the game legitimatley and fairly, but that left me backtracking endlessly to the heal pod because they give not enough health. As the game progressed, they didn't give enough ammo or powerful weapons. I was left with no option but to salvage the game with cheats. There is a good game underneath the poor balancing. It is common. I had to use a walkthrough because the backtracking is absurd in order to progress. Trying to figure out how to proceed is next to impossible on your own once you've exhausted your exploration and any ideas you may have. Faithful remake of a game that still holds up today.

I was ready for this to be a rough play, but god this was the most a game has hooked me in ages. The space station is just so much fun to explore. Sure the design sensibilities are pretty old school. You'll get ambushed and killed by enemies a tonne and so will need to lean on the quicksave button a bit, but if you've played these legacy shooters before that'll be second nature to you. It's such a rarity and a treat for a game that harks back so far to still be worth playing in the modern age.

Great game and great remake. Difficult but fare. Finished the original when it came out, and the remake is exactly what I need after so many mediocre garbage the industry is coming with in last couple of years. Must try for lovers of survival genre
