About Alone in the Dark

✦ AI summary

Explore a haunted Southern Gothic mansion unraveling eldritch horrors and personal trauma through the eyes of either Emily Hartwood or Edward Carnby, armed with scarce ammunition and unraveling sanity. This reimagining of the genre-defining 1992 classic combines psychological dread with next-gen storytelling, featuring award-winning actors Jodie Comer and David Harbour in their first video game roles and a twisted narrative by the writer of SOMA and Amnesia.

Return to Derceto Manor in this reimagination of Alone in the Dark, a love letter to the 90’s cult classic horror game.

✦ AI summary

Alone in the Dark features strong atmosphere and compelling story moments that draw players in, supported by solid production values and visual design, but is held back by significant performance issues, repetitive voice lines, sluggish movement, and underwhelming combat and puzzle mechanics. Players appreciate the horror ambiance and narrative setup, though many note the story feels rushed toward the end and voice acting lacks emotional depth despite featuring recognizable actors.

I very much enjoyed my time with the game, solving puzzles shotting things and interacting with characters. not the most indept mechanics but the atmosphere is amazing, I feel like thats the most important thing for puzzle driven, story games.

C-tier game with A-tier production values. I just wish there was a way to turn off the annoying "I NEED A KEY!" and "IT'S LOCKED", and "MY WEAPON BROKE!" dialogue whenever said things happen to the player character...Buy it on sale.

I really like it liner horror game that happens around a mental institution
Not recommended Sep 27, 2026
Poorly optimised. At 1440p, with fsr, am struggling to get playable frame rates when moving between scenes. Don't have this with any other games. Not playable, won't bother with another game from this team.

So there are alot of interesting story beats so far but the issues with the game are many. Performance is terrible for the graphical fidelity here period and no excuse for how muddy the game looks. The voice actors phoned it in and AI would have more emotion and care. Movement....who the hell walks that slow. I have no idea how this has such a positive rating on here as it is a lazy effort and no wonder the studio closed.

I wish there was a "meh" button besides the "recommend" and "not recommend". A story that hooks you up in the beginning but gets kinda rushed (?) by the end. Visually very nice, not exceptional but not bad either. Good atmosphere, meh combat and meh puzzles. Despite having "famous" actors, the VA result is meh. In general is a meh situation. I don't think it deserves a thumbs down but, yeah, meh.
