About Subliminal

✦ AI summary

Subliminal is a first-person puzzle-exploration game where you manipulate light as a physical tool to solve environmental puzzles and uncover fragmented memories across surreal, distorted locations. As you delve deeper into these psychological spaces, you're hunted by an otherworldly presence born from your own consciousness, blending cerebral puzzle-solving with mounting horror as reality itself becomes unreliable.

Light shapes the world around you. Bending shadows, opening doors... the world is yours to discover.Light isn't just how you see, it's how you survive. In Subliminal, illumination is a physical material that is yours to grasp, carry, and bend to your will to alter the space you find yourself occupying. You'll grab fixtures from ceilings, cast light to open doors, and reveal pathways that seem impossible to reach. You are not given answers in Subliminal; you are given choices. Puzzles revolve around manipulating perspective and lighting. Change an area's lighting, and the entire space might change. Place a light too far, and you may have to start from the beginning. Everything you move and every shadow you create changes what is, and isn't, real. The more you remember, the more it remembers you.Somewhere beneath the surface of your memories, something is waiting. At first, you'll sense it behind walls and around corners, or hear the faint sounds of breathing when you stand still. Later, you'll see it, a figure that shouldn't exist, chasing you through decaying hallways and down endless slides. That thing... it's not human.Encounters in Subliminal are psychologically terrifying events born within your own consciousness. Things sense your movements and hesitation. Fumble with a puzzle too slowly when it matters most, and you may feel the weight of the world closing in on you.Do you remember?Every space you enter in Subliminal is a fragment of a memory. Discover the secrets of basements, water parks, play places, and more, all rendered in meticulous detail in Unreal Engine 5's Lumen lighting and Nanite geometry. Nothing is quite right. Slides lead to places they shouldn't, TV screens transport you between memories, and doors loop back to the same room you started from. Each location tells a part of your story. As you explore, the environment becomes puzzling and less stable. You may see things that do not exist, hear sounds that are not really there, and feel things that make the hairs of your neck stand up. What begins as an exploration soon turns into a violent confrontation with your own fading sense of self.

✦ AI summary

Subliminal receives praise for its photorealistic graphics, engaging puzzle-solving mechanics, and multiple endings that encourage exploration, though players consistently note the game is disappointingly short with limited horror content despite its backrooms-inspired marketing. Common complaints include puzzles that are either too easy or frustratingly obscure, excessive puzzle frequency that interrupts exploration and atmosphere, limited enemy variety, and a lack of manual save features between checkpoints, with some noting the game has demanding system requirements.

Good Game reminds me alot of poppy playtime but i think that there arent enough "scary" parts most of it is just puzzel solving which is fun but i wouldve rathered more horror parts

very good storyline and gameplay. Graphics are photorealistic and i rly love the puzzles and the idea of multiple endings and paths. Great game, just lacks the feature to be able to save progress after u reached a checkpoint. so u have to reach the next checkpoint so that it saves. other than that, its goated

The puzzles are way too easy and uncreative. Once you realise what it's asking of you (like the Walter balloon following you on the opposite side) its way too easy to solve. Monster design is great, but there needs to be more than just 1. I wanted the game to have an eerie creepy feeling like the backrooms (as advertised), but it does not except on one ending. It's just trial and error scripted chase scenes otherwise. Still a good game in its own right and I look forward to episode 2.

Honestly, this game was a let down for me after following it delay after delay. i went into it expecting a visually stunning game that maybe had one or two chase scenes from the entity in the previews and i was hyped. what i wasnt ready for was constant puzzles every few steps in the game, or such hidden pathways you spend to much time getting frustrated with trying to complete a puzzle your thrown into right after already doing one or constantly missing tiny paths in chases scenes in the dark lighting. you almost never get to just focus on the visuals or the whole liminal thing cause your not exploring. just doing a puzzle every min of your gameplay. game was advertised as a exploration liminal game with some horror aspects from all the teasers. it is in fact not that. to many puzzles and no clues in areas its needed to keep gameplay smooth where you can just focus on story and the horror stuff.
