✦ AI summary

Alchemickal is a compact roguelike action game with engaging combat mechanics centered around elemental combinations and weapon mixing, which players find creative and fun to learn despite the steep difficulty curve. The main criticism is the limited content and upgrade variety, with players wishing for more items, character progression options, and usable element combinations to experiment with.

You are Al "Chemic" Kal. Betrayed by your master Scott Stapp, you decide to seek revenge and steal the holy Creed for yourself. You've been sleeping with eyes wide open and your sacrifice has led you to the realm of Scotty Stoppy. He's hiding in his own prison, throwing his robot minions at you every step of the way, but you were born to overcome his feeble attempts. After all... it is your destiny. JOKING aside, this is a very fun small roguelike action game where you've got two weapons: a scythe called Lizzo (ozenpic edition) and a pistol called Danny. By mixing elements you strengthen your weapons, each enemy having different weak spots, use your elixirs to your advantage and clear the wizard lair from fans of divorced dad rock. There aren't many upgrades to your character and the shopkeeper might be the biggest "oh no, the dev is a coomer" moment, but overall I recommend this game. Cool gameplay loop, okay graphics, fun music... to quote Todd "please end yourself' Howard: it works!

A simple yet extremely punishing roguelike with an interesting take on the elemental rock-paper-scissors formula, as well as "an appealing shop keeper" as the store page cheekily puts it ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°). Demands a lot of memorisation and quick thinking that was a bit tough to break into, and there's heaps of clever element combinations to find (albeit not much incentive to use most of them). There aren't many items or upgrade options, but for the price that's perfectly fine for a bite-sized game. It's a creative experiment, and definitely feels like the system they've created can be taken to great heights in a sequel.

A solid game, very fun to switch elements on the fly, as well as mix various elements together (HUGE lightning fan). It seemed cumbersome at first, but am glad to say that it was easy to pick up and I quickly grew to enjoy it. I was surprised at how intense a turret and 2 floating ball things were, depending on which variants I fought. I also REALLY love the little descriptions, very nice touch. Another thing I really liked was the weapon upgrade system. The descriptions given don't do them justice to how fun they are. I'd say the same for the altar bonuses, but they don't really appear enough for me to say much about them, still very cool. Honestly, my biggest issue is that there isn't more to play around with. The various special mixes range from interesting to somewhat underwhelming. Maybe it's to their benefit they aren't TOO game-breaking, but I can't say that one shield mix inspired much joy compare to, say, the explosive one? Shopkeep items are cool, but the HP ones seem a bit out-of-place, considering how fast you can die + the inbuilt heal mechanic. No Hit achievements are evil. For a boss, or level sure, but the WHOLE GAME? Evil. Would love a quick reset or a 1 HP mode…

I'm literally only here to watch the shop keeper slam her massive tiddies on me and kill me instantly.
