ArcaniA: Fall of Setarrif

[h1] Despite some quirks it's still RPG worth checking out if you like the genre. This one is expansion so expect rather short gameplay. Some of the bugs have been patched. Generally not the worst RPG out there but very mediocre one. [/h1]

[h1] ArcaniA: Leftovers [/h1] This is a standalone expansion that picks up the story immediately after the ending of the main game. However, it feels far more like a short, underwhelming DLC than a proper expansion, ultimately lacking in both quality and quantity. I can only recommend this to die-hard fans of ArcaniA. Pros: You can transfer your character directly from the main game. Great soundtrack and decent voice acting. Decent combat mechanics, responsive controls, and good optimization. Cons: It is very short; I managed to finish it in a single sitting. Some animations look incredibly goofy and unpolished. The whole package feels less like a built-from-scratch expansion and more like unused assets.

If you thought ArcaniA somehow needed less game, congratulations: Fall of Setarrif is here to answer the question nobody asked. I finished this thing in 100 minutes. That's not a typo. I've had character creators take longer than this expansion. This isn't an expansion, it's a side quest that escaped containment and got sold separately. Some of my favorite features: - the game proudly lets you import your endgame character from ArcaniA, then immediately starts handing out better gear, making the whole feature feel like a participation trophy - there are TWO side quests. Not "very few." Literally two. Calling this an RPG is optimistic The best part is that this was supposed to wrap up ArcaniA's story. Instead it feels like someone found the design document, noticed it was only three pages long, shrugged, and shipped it anyway. By the time I had started caring about anything, the expansion was already over. I've watched YouTube reviews that took longer to explain why this DLC exists than it takes to finish it. If the base game was a mediocre attempt at being Gothic, Fall of Setarrif is downloadable closure for a story that didn't deserve one.

Solid expansion. New enemies, armor, and locations. Play as allies too. If you liked the main game, grab this.

It's just more of the base game, really. Maybe ever so slightly worse. I did find that this expansion was a little bit short, I'd left my game idle for a little while and would guess that I actually only played for about four and a half hours, getting what I believe is 100% completion. That being said I felt the base game was too long, so I'd rather this be a bit short than have the same problem again. They re-used the same terrible final boss fight from the main game, and some of the buildings and areas were obviously re-used with minimal, or no changes. But the character importing works great, your character's personality is back to being relatively pleasant, and when bundled with the base game through the gold edition it's only an extra few dollars. On sale for at least 75% off, and in a bundle, I recommend it.

[h1] ArcaniA: Fall of Setarrif - Review [/h1] As much as I didn't mind the base game, this standalone DLC is just weak. No exploration, worse textures, no challenge whatsoever. Definitely not worth it for the price, considering that it didn't even take me 5 hours to complete the entire thing (and I was talking my time with collecting all the loot, etc.).
