✦ AI summary

Arietta of Spirits is praised for its charming pixel art, heartfelt story about a girl discovering her spiritual powers, and solid Zelda-like gameplay that respects players' time with its short, focused length. However, some players feel the game mechanics and exploration are underdeveloped, with the experience feeling somewhat limited and repetitive throughout, as if the game never quite moves beyond its opening scope.

Solid, short top-down Zelda-like, just a nice length for the linear story and level design. Great art, decent sound. Controls are fine; I wouldn't call them snappy, but neither do they get in the way. A thoughtful story about a girl (and her family) who finds she has powers to see spirits, that pulls your heart strings a bit as it starts wrapping up, but with a hopeful note for a sequel. I love that they ground the story in real life, even as it delves into a very standard stabbing spirit-monsters kinda game.

its ok pretty, but character portraits looks sad most of the time slightly clunky gameplay, responsive but not great overall sad game runs well on any computer

It's a pretty good game made by a small team. The combat is engaging and not too easy (I played on normal difficulty), the world itself is fairly big. Overall, it's a good game, but there's still room for polish and even room for the game itself to grow, should the team ever want to revisit and expand it. Once thing that tripped me up a couple times was the hitbox of my weapon, which is fairly small, so i attack an enemy, but it's JUST out of reach, which can be super annoying. Other than just making the hitbox bigger, an interesting way to solve this would be the option of a ranged weapon. The characters are interesting, and none of them feel just shoved in there for the sake of it. One thing that would also be a big improvement, though maybe not strictly necessary, would be any kind of map. You may ask yourself "the world's not that big, you don't need a map", but a lot of the world uses the same sprites and thus everything looks kind of same-y, and there's few markers placed in the world. It's really just a nitpick though, but something that could be thought about if a remake were to be considered... Regardless, i liked it, and can be played through in one evening. I took j…

Arietta of Spirits is an enjoyable ~3-hour game where you must uncover the mysteries of spirits and an abandoned mine in the woodlands near your home. Pros: - Game looks lovely, both environments and characters. - Music is nice - UI is simple but very polished. - Story is simple but enjoyable. - Traveling from one outdoor area to the next is ~instantaneous. Cons: - No sword levelups or upgrades to make revisiting early areas easier. All enemies will take 2-3 hits to kill, for the entire game. - Daytime enemies drop nothing other than health recovery items (which you can get from bushes and other destructibles in a much safer manner), making fighting them rather pointless. (Spirit enemies at least drop crystals which can level up your max HP, but after 3 hearts obtained in this manner, that's it.) - Lack of map and lack of recognizable landmarks makes it difficult to know where you are. Outdoor environments are large, winding, and look very similar, and you will be fighting the same small number of enemy types for most of them. - Lack of % completion or location-assistance for bear-collection sidequest. Areas are huge and they can be anywhere. Even if you try to check every bush …
