About Beyond the Storm
Beyond the Storm is a love-letter for the game Tyrian, published in 1995 by XSIV/Epic Megagames. As it, expect the same experience, with a lot of more content and improved visuals.
Be NEARLY vaporized, crushed, blown to pieces, flame broiled, and electrocuted using your incredible targeting skills and class 1 fancy flying to keep you alive in this SHMUP that brings back the essence of the classic arcade shmups!

1 found this helpful
As others have said, it's a take on Tyrian, using objects from the original. I like the idea and have been after a game like this for a long time! Unfortunately, the implementation doesn't feel right. I like the idea of the open map, but: it's tedious collecting cores to jump around as you become capped at 9. The power system isn't nice to use - I see what they have gone for, but it is just awkward. The "true" ending to the game is missable - so you will have to start a whole new save if you don't catch that- you can reload, but you'll be in the "bad" ending. The weapons feel far more limited than the original game, and maybe it isn't smaller but it feels like it has far less going on. And my biggest issue - the controls! It's so hard to use a mouse in this game - I used keyboard for the most part, but every now and then using the mouse caused me to launch to the right as the tracking wandered off the (full) screen and plowed my ship into walls! It is very hard to use the twiddles too like this. Maybe there's something up with my specific setup, but they were a pain/impossible to use like this. I read over the bugs and history and there hasn't been updates for some time, so in the …1 found this helpful
As old Tyrian fan I can say good sides: - Movement of ships and particles feels very much like in the original, even thou remade with Gamemaker, so that is nice - Music feels good and fitting, some which are remixes of original songs and some I think are new songs - Whole new maps to play and new lore to read Something negative that I found surprising in 2024 and that could be improved in future updates: - Some graphics feels quite low resolution, some very high resolution, so the low ones could be upscaled with AI or just some hq4x style algorithm and then put back to data files to make them look better than whatever filtering Gamemaker has (looks like simple bilinear) - The game is capped to 60fps. Would be nice to have support for higher fps for those of us who have a high Hz gaming monitor like 144Hz and 240Hz1 found this helpful
Yes, yes, yes. This game is Tyrian 2022. I randomly stumbled upon this and was really in shock to see it. Anyone complaining that it isn't identical to Tyrian 1995 can go download DOS box and go play the 1995 version. The game is no longer linear game play (awesome) and there is more complexity to your ship (great). Its supposed to be a challenge and these little tweaks really add to the game play value. Its still an awesome arcade style classic with a more modern play experience. The only con is no multiplayer. If they even add local multiplayer support, like the original game, (one person uses mouse, one person uses keyboard) it would be freaking awesome! But then if they could manage to add remote play it would be perfect! 100/100 recommended if you like any old school shooter arcade style game like this. If you can't handle the graphics please just GTFO.1 found this helpful
Not quite as good as the game it was based on. The graphics are upscaled versions of the original tyrian graphics, which is a little uninspired.
