After reading other reviews, I have to agree with the general consensus. The absolute strongest points of the game are definitely the narrative and the dialogue; it's clear the developers put a ton of effort into them. The setting is also very interesting and unique, and the soundtrack is fantastic. On the downside, the combat is probably the weakest link since it gets very repetitive. You only ever get three types of arrows, so there isn't a huge variety of powers. Progress feels more like just upgrading what you already have—like gathering more resources or expanding your arrow capacity—rather than getting new abilities. It can feel a bit repetitive because of that, but overall, it's a solid experience.3 found this helpful
It starts a bit slow and directionless, but it picks up after an hour or two. Beautiful art, voice acting and story. The traversal is cool, open world is filled with stuff to discover and the combat is decent to good, although not exceptionally so. The dark and personal retelling of Slavic mythologic is unique and very well done, it reminds me vaguely of American Mcgee's Alice. I'm surprised at how competent and polished this indie title is 8/102 found this helpful
it's a slow start, but if you're patient with it then you figure out what the game wants from you pretty quickly. i enjoyed exploring the wacky world and i loved the slavic folklore. i didn't love the ending, but that actually wasn't a dealbreaker for me because i had so much fun with the rest of the game.1 found this helpful
The gameplay is a bit slow, but it makes sense due to the fact your main weapon is a bow, so it doesn't overwhelm you too often. Good story, very fun characters too.1 found this helpful
BLACKTAIL is PERFECT It's a fast, action-adventure RPG where you play as witch, archer, girl Yaga who's questing through a beautiful world with very interesting characters. People who like the Far Cry series' game design can like this. -The only imperfection I know is there's no manual save slots. I accidentally progressed on a sorta evil quest when I was simply wanting to investigate something, and the game auto-saved there. I now have a fire-type deer Pokemon standing around for no reason. BLACKTAIL is better than Tomb Raider too. I hate Lara Croft in the prequel trilogy. She's advertised as some poor survivalist, BUT she murders DOZENS OF BEARS to craft a TINY BAG! Lara Croft disgusts me. Yaga is TRULY RESOURCEFUL and only takes what she needs. At least that's how I choose to play this game. Also, I compared BLACKTAIL to Far Cry, but BLACKTAIL is MUCH better as there's zero wasteful time collecting nothing materials. All materials you gather are useful. Zero microtransactions in this game too. Focus is good. Ubisoft is awful.

Movement feels smooth and responsive, with running, jumping, dashing, and teleport stones making exploration fast and enjoyable. Unfortunately, combat isn't nearly as fluid. Equipping your bow comes with a hefty movement speed penalty, making movement feel sluggish and clunky during the moments it matters most. The game also introduces several progression systems that add depth on paper. A talent tree, unlockable abilities, and a morality system that lets you choose between a light or dark path are all interesting ideas. I also appreciated that the game creates a separate save…
