About Containment: The Zombie Puzzler
✦ AI summary
Surround zombies with same-colored survivors to contain the outbreak while battling back against infected hordes in this real-time puzzle-action hybrid. Use the environment as your weapon, collect powerful items, and face off against boss zombies across a gripping campaign that unfolds through in-world storytelling.
Containment: The Zombie Puzzler is an action puzzle game like you’ve never seen before. The goal of Containment is to surround zombies with survivors of the same color. But watch out for the zombies—they'll fight back by infecting the survivors in the street. Through the game's pulse-pounding campaign and multiple survival modes, you'll use your wits, items you find you along the way, and even the town around you to contain the zombie outbreak.
Key Features:
- Not a Match 3 In Containment, you don’t match three of anything—you eliminate zombies by surrounding them with survivor tiles.
- These Tiles are Alive Each tile is a fully animated character that interacts not just with its fellow survivors and zombies, but also with the environment.
- Unique Storytelling There's no time for cutscenes or dialog boxes when the undead are trying to eat you—the story of Franklin County and its survivors is told through in-world text as you make your escape through what's left of the city.
- Real-Time/Turn-Based Containment combines the cerebral strategy of a puzzle game with all the real-time action you'd expect from a zombie attack.
- WMD’s Playing the game well rewards you with useful items that you can use against the zombie horde to devastating effect.
- The Environment is Your Friend Franklin itself becomes a weapon as you knock over signs, power up heavy cranes, and roll cars over zombies.
- Boss battles Yeah, that’s right. We even have boss battles. You haven’t seen zombies like these before.
Yea containment is an understatement... I was puzzled by that
In Containment the Zombie Puzzler it's a game that... well, puzzles you. No, I mean you have to solve puzzles that are, well... puzzling. No, that's not right either. Let me start over. Containment the Zombie Puzzler isn't really a puzzle game. It's more of a strategy game. The strategy is to contain zombies with matching units fast enough to prevent more zombies from being created. The moment you launch the game you're greeted by a continuous dial tone. No music. Just a dial tone. I guess a zombie left the phone off the hook. Then once you start the campaign you quickly realize why I put the game down 11 years ago. It's very repetitive, and after a while it starts feeling more like work than fun. Ironic that there are achievements for killing survivors. That's not exactly the definition of surviving now, is it? Anyhoo... I lightly recommend this game because there are better games out there and it feels unfinished, but it's not terrible. Picked this up on a bundle, never play it until now and I really enjoyed it. The core mechanic of surrounding zombies with matching survivors sounds simple, but the time pressure as zombies infect your people keeps things tense and engaging. It's essentially a match-style puzzler with a zombie skin, and that works better than it has any right to. The power-ups like grenades, sniper shots, and Molotovs add a nice tactical layer, and I liked that you carry them between levels. That said, the campaign wraps up in about 2-3 hours and the repetition does set in before the credits roll, so don't expect something that'll consume your weekend. If you enjoy casual puzzlers and can grab it on sale or in a bundle, it's a fun little distraction that punches above its budget.1 found this helpful
Stupid ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ game wont even let me play act two. And yes I beat act one completely including all 5 chapters. Restarted and tried again and still didn't work. I even got the achievement for beating act one. Broken game.1 found this helpful
This is a by-the-numbers "puzzle" game that isn't executed terribly well. It's basically all timed, just trying to eliminate the zombies currently on the field by surrounding them with a single type of survivor, but because it's just a time thing with no action limits it really has no puzzle aspect to it, barely even strategy. This is definitely an Indie game, but even for indie this feels unpolished, with muddy audio and a constant annoying heartbeat thrown in just to try to artificially induce adrenaline to achieve their target excitement without the effort. The campaign is just one line of text between short boards, which manages to be both uninteresting and really, really dragged out. Honestly, this game just doesn't feel at all worth it, even for $5.
Fun and intense, but quick to pick up and put down if you only have 5 minutes of game time. One of my go-to annual halloween playthroughs.
I'm not a big puzzle fan, but I do like zombies. This is a decent mix of the two.
