Surprisingly, My Favorite of the Trilogy
Returning to Final Fantasy 13, after never beating it on release, one thing I have heard is that FF13-2 is the best and FF13-3 is a mixed bag. To my surprise, Lightning Returns ended up being my favorite for various reasons. It is my favorite in the trilogy, but also goes above many other Final Fantasies for me, too. From what I thought was FF13 fatigue while I was playing through FF13-2, this game has the charm and gameplay I was waiting for.
Pacing
This game is as open as you want it to be. Among the Main Objectives, you can decide to tackle them in whatever order you want. Additionally, the same can be said about the Side Quests. You can do as many, or as little, as you wish in whatever order you want. For a couple of reasons, with how the main mechanic in this game works, that aspect actually bodes itself well for the pacing of the game. With every decision comes a reward, progression. With every freedom comes efficient or casual time spent. You decide what or how much you do; How long this game takes is something you have control over.
Combat
Building off of what the trilogy has had before, Lightning…

TLDR: worst FF game ever (worse than XVI and II) and it's not even close. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ So it's a side quest simulator that is timed and full of obtuse and terrible systems and Hope doesn't shut the ♥♥♥♥ up? Nah, I'm good. Terribly disappointed to finally playing this especially after the masterpiece that it is XIII-2. Will, one day, come back to it, maybe, and maybe I will change my opinion of it, but for now... no, I can't recommend it at all.

Completed from start to finish on linux without any problems once the program starts. It likes revalidating the files sometimes and sometimes gets stuck on compiling vulkan shaders but once it starts it runs perfectly - use the game's own controller input not steam input. I see other reviews suggesting you play on easy but I did a blind playthrough on normal and finished nearly everything with about 4 or 5 days to spare, it is probably the easiest game of the trilogy in my opinion. I agree with the coverage of the other reviews about the game itself, 7/10.

I remember watching my brother play this game for hours and trying to understand what was going on. It's funny how of all FF games, Lightning returns is one that left the biggest mark on me (Outside of 14). I know some people might have some dislike for this game but I asure you, it's a very interesting and fun experience!

My favorite FF game because its my first rpg experience game back on PS3, i came back just to play the trilogy again to see what i love about this. Some good unforgettable soundtrack, story to close up the trilogy is good, i like the ATB system here and heve a different kind of setup that i can customize, etc. Theres one quest that im having trouble with that consume more time to spent, well there is an alternate way to do it.. overall im good with it and a great game to try.
