Check on your trophy hauls, your favourite meal, how much gold you're making with the local merchants. You can monitor many forms of evolution of your chosen hero!True Idle Gameplay
Many idle games advertise themselves as idle, but get gated or stuck if you don't consistently interact with them, or have degenerate gameplay loops that incentivize silly behaviour or are flooded with microtransactions. Gods of Angling aims to be a truly idle game that can run (at very low system resource utilization!) in the background as a Tamagotchi-like experience while you do anything you like. The player can engage with the game how and when they like and drive autonomous behaviours through policies and settings. In keeping with this vision of providing a user-friendly experience, your character will even sleep when you sleep!Rich Theming System
Inspired by the class SNES game of my namesake, the user interface colour theme is highly customizable to provide an experience that suits your individual needs whether preference or accessibility. Change your theme in a moment, whenever you like improve your experience. Delicious themes are available beyond the default "Oreo" theme. Why not give Blackberry, Coconut or Mint a try? There are many tasty options to choose from to customize your experience and visual preferences.Pricing and Monetization
Gods of Angling is free! It is a free game, and it will never contain aggressive or pay-two-win microtransaction mechanics. The Founders Edition DLC provides access to additional hero races & classes and themes. The DLC is optional, and never in-your-face or unfair. This is a promise!DLC & expansions

Gods of Angling is an idle RPG‑style fishing game and its biggest twist is that it actually treats itself like an RPG. Instead of simply casting a line, you begin by choosing a class and race, and your character’s stats directly influence how well you perform various abilities and tasks. You wander through the world, encounter aquatic creatures and automatically enter combat. Winning a fight means you “catch” the creature; losing simply sends your character drifting onward. Since the gameplay is fully automated, your active involvement is limited to managing equipment, selecting spells and abilities, handling codex events and buying items from merchants. Everything else plays out on its own. The game’s weaknesses are hard to ignore. There is no tutorial, no onboarding and no meaningful explanation of how anything works. The game offers no tips, no guidance and no exposition to help players understand its systems. Instead, you’re bombarded with repetitive text logs that quickly become noise. Much of the writing is filler—lines like “You walk” or “You miss” appear so frequently that reading them becomes pointless. Thankfully, the game is pretty easy and simple and the ga…4 found this helpful
A fun little idle game, where you make a character and see how well they do on their rpg angling journey, with a dev who's very responsive to issues and suggestions, i.e. those other reviews you see talking about the real time sleep problem? That was fixed before I even stumbled upon this idle gem. Player tasks are there, but short, mostly changing equipment/pets/skill/kitchen rules or the once an hour optional minigame. Occasionally your character might wake up from a nap with a dream of a short task only you, the player, can complete for them, and all buying/selling actions are also up to you, which becomes extra useful given the existence of scrolls that allow you to borrow 1 skill for another race or class on top of your own. It's very multiboxing friendly and allows for custom portraits if you dislike the default for a given class/race combo, which I may have used a lot, with some genuinely interesting depth and customization to each character that ensures some variation in how it all plays out, And it really is lightweight for a modern game, I have 5 characters running, at all times, and it only costs me ~250mb of ram a multiboxed instance, something the game fully supports do…2 found this helpful
I just wanted a little idle auto-battler game for my second screen while working, and this fits perfectly. You just build your character and let them do their thing in the background. Character creation offers a wide range of species and classes. There is a lot to experiment with, which I really like. There are also plenty of deep in-game statistics and logs to check your standing, as well as a daily competition to measure yourself against others. Your active gameplay is mostly about setting skills, manage your inventory/equipment and doing some minor minigames. Also, since there is no offline progression, you have to leave the window running in the background to make progress. It's free and it’s a great background companion, exactly what I was looking for.2 found this helpful

Starts pretty slow, but gets better with time - more things to do, more engaging stuff, and of course you get used to the pace, so it works out in the end. Dev is active on discussion board and takes in comments from the players, and considering this is a free game (you can support with a DLC purchase, that adds some classes/race, which is not really a big deal at all), really deserves extra brownie points in my book. Lastly, although it is an idle game, it does requires you to keep the game running, which explains my game time. Doesn't takes up much PC resources though, so it might be a good feature (considering there is a daily ranking based on fish weight caught), or not, depending on how you look at it. Overall, I like the game as an idle game where I don't feel forced to rush things or look at it constantly to collect resource, etc. Let it run, come and look at it when you feel like it, look at what you caught, whether your new pet has leveled up, any good gears to change, fulfill various dream requirements as needed, or do nothing at all. Progress Quest but fishing for all y'all millennials that remember booting that up on the high school PCs. A little more interaction, though. You can set skills, rotation, pets, cook food and buffs, buy from a merchant, equip gear and sets with a Diablo-lite loot system, classes and races do actually matter. Surprisingly deep if you look at the math. There are mini games that increase your race rep, unlocks, and other systems in the game that gradually, slowly unlock over time. I'm in the 40 level range after about 7 days of leaving the game open. I like waking up to see what new shiny loot I got. For a free background idle game, can you really complain?2 found this helpful
