Golden Treasure: The Great Green

This game was so beautiful and opened my eyes to how incredible life can be, how harsh yet kind nature is. 10/10 do recommend.

I happen to be cursed with above-average pickiness. "Well Written" is not a title I'm willing to bestow lightly. I've heard that title passed around more haphazardly than a skunk weed joint, with my face contorting into increasingly anguished expressions as those words are paired with things like Dragon Age, or New Vegas (my favorite game, ironically), or Roadwarden, or, may the stars forgive me for uttering that name, B#ldur's G#te 3. But for once, the sheer onslaught of fanatical praise is well earned. This really is well written. It's not just good prose, the author also nails the fact that you play as a different species with a fundamentally different psychological profile that perceives world in ways we cannot. It takes a special kind of skill to make something so alien feel so natural. And it's not just the writing alone, either. The visuals and music are also superb, and I'm not talking fidelity or quality in-a-vacuum, I'm talking about how well the three are intertwined with each other and how they flow together in a joint, coherent, and compelling way. Wonderful game, very thought provoking, quite complex/multi-layered, and even a little difficult. Love the story, and I can't wait to see what else Dreaming Door Studios makes in the future.

I can't recommend this game as they support the use of generative AI, which is depressing, seeing how the game is hand-drawn (or so I believe). They corrupted a beautiful game with AI

this is a visual novel and i somehow managed to play it obsessively for nearly thirty hours because i enjoyed the gameplay so much. the dance of destruction's music will always be in my head, the battles in this game feel like a fact-of-life rather than a choice. the art and writing is beautiful. 100000000% recommend. its great. spoilers below: i love how the dragons must change and adapt to the world around them, as their rule over 'natural structure' is trampled on, and their reluctance to ever view the world outside of what is 'natural' eventually leads to their own end. i have not seen many games go into this theme like golden treasure has. to see it's fairy-tale logic get flipped on it's head, and see the thing it's been refusing to address--that is, that every creature has it's own culture and speech--be portrayed straight, was great.
