About LOST PLANET® 3

✦ AI summary

Pilot a mining rig across the frozen, hostile planet E.D.N. III to harvest thermal energy while battling alien Akrid in both first-person combat and vehicle-based action. Uncover the colonial secrets of this extreme world through a gripping single-player campaign enhanced by diverse multiplayer modes.

The extreme and unpredictable conditions that characterized the Lost Planet series return, harsher than ever before. Lost Planet 3 reveals new truths about the foreboding planet and the colonial history of E.D.N. III.

Lost Planet 3 introduces Jim Peyton, a rig pilot who leaves Earth to take on a hazardous but lucrative contract on E.D.N. III. Working for Neo-Venus Construction (NEVEC) who are preparing the planet for colonisation, Jim joins his fellow pioneers at the Coronis base and begins surveying the uncharted terrain and obtaining samples of the planet’s energy supply – Thermal Energy.

With NEVEC’s existing Thermal Energy reserve running low the fate of the Coronis mission depends on the natural source of the energy supply being located. Realising that this is a great opportunity for a huge pay-off and early ticket home to his family, Jim braves the risk of the treacherous environment and threat of the indigenous Akrid.
Acting as a home away from home and boasting an array of tools that can assist Jim on the field, the utility rig provides Jim’s safety and is essential not only for his contract work but also his protection against the ever-changing climate.

Lost Planet 3 will deliver a diverse range of gameplay including on-foot battles and intense first person action. With a number of multiplayer modes and a compelling single player experience, Lost Planet 3 will delve deeper into the Lost Planet universe, uncovering hidden truths within the unique and dynamic environment of E.D.N. III.

Lost Planet 3 is the only one I played from the trilogy, so I can't really compare it to previous titles. It's a pretty safe, 3rd-person shooter. It still takes place on E.D.N. III, and the planet is pleasant to look at and has a solid atmosphere, really managing to sell a hostile, frozen wasteland. The story is generic, but it's not completely terrible, and Jim is an OK protagonist, even if he doesn't really stand out. The giant mech sessions that break the monotony are the highlight of the game, and fighting the Akrids is always fun. There's also a bit of exploration tossed in, so the levels aren't completely linear. But the biggest problem is that the game is just too grounded and doesn't do anything especially interesting with its setting. It's a pretty slow game at times, focused on its mediocre story, and doesn't give you many opportunities to fight giant monsters. The characters aren't even remotely memorable and feel one-dimensional. Also, the world can feel samey, and the different places you visit aren't all that different. LP3 isn't a very exciting game; it's clearly not worth the full price, but during a sale, it could be worth picking up.

Painfully underrated. Simple, story driven game that's worth playing over a weekend

I feel like if this game was not named Lost Planet...people would have liked it more, I have really enjoyed the world building as well as the slower pace of this game so far. I have a ways to go before I finish it but I am pretty perplexed by all the ♥♥♥♥♥♥ reviews. Game is pretty good, especially for 3 dollars.

It obviously took too much inspiration from Dead Space, which was made very clearly to have mirrored Resident Evil 4 in several ways. Yet somehow Capcom didn't use their own Resident Evil team to work on this game, that imitated Dead Space, that imitated Resident Evil... So what we got is an obvious downgrade from Lost Planet with an identity crisis. i find it to be quite a bad game that I struggle to motivate myself into attempting to finish it.

I didn't play Lost Planet 1 or 2, so I played Lost Planet 3 for what it is. And it's one of the best games of the PS3 era. If you want, you can set your own playlist on the rig, it's easy. A subpar game designed to waste as much of the players time as possible. Definitely not recommended.
