Mistified is a grid-based puzzle game that mixes several genres, there are pure sokoban aspects – mainly the log pushing à la A Monster’s Expedition – as well as some Pâquerette Down the Bunburrows vibes. Your crow is equipped with a mist lantern that emits light around you, any animal in its radius will run in the opposite direction. Killing the dark claws by stepping on them and disabling their traps is one of the objectives of the puzzles, but saving the souls of the animals by guiding them towards the soul circle is just as important. 🐇 A rabbit out of a hat 🔹 EXPECTATIONS: a simple sokoban game with cute art and a wide range of characters. 🔹 REALITY: a sokoban game that does a lot with very few elements. 🔶 In Mistified we embody a crow that has had his cooking spices stolen by a shadowy entity, which is also disturbing the peace among the local fauna. So we'll travel through interconnected puzzle levels, eradicating the evil instances while bringing animals to safety and retrieving our condiments. 🔸 The game's biggest achievement is how it manages to do so much with so few elements. I was expecting a wide range of animals, each found in a specific area and with unique behaviour/mechanics behind them, but by the end I was shocked there's only 5 (three types of rabbit, a bull and a walrus). 🔸 The magic lies in the intricacies of each element (alone or combined with others) and how the game pushes the player just the right amount to make them discover the solution to each puzzle without telling. This game is buggy beyond belief. The performance is awful, somehow. It feels unresponsive and slow to move around. The settings menu is extremely confusing. Why did I need to spend a few minutes just figuring out how to exit fullscreen? I guess having no text for the "aesthetic" is worth being completely incomprehensible. Undoing is bizarre (holding instantly takes you back 5000 moves), and I can't undo after restarting. I keep getting this error when undoing and it's telling me to restart the game over and over again. I'm sick of it. How is this even considered playable?
