"Native Isekai Defense: Prologue" is not a game. It's an advertisement for a product called "Native Isekai Defense", a very mediocre multiplayer focused third person brawler that failed to garner any interest from gamers and may never be completed as it seems to be headed towards development hell. One curious aspect of Early Access is that when developers dump bad products into it, it can actually encourage them to abandon the project when they discover ahead of time that nobody wanted their game. Of course, this doesn't mean that developers refund any of the money they take from backers despite not delivering a game. Of course, the clock is still ticking for Native Isekai Defense, so we'll have to see if they give any money back to both people who bought it. But this isn't completely relevant because this is not Native Isekai Defense, it's just an advertisment for it, so it's not correct to try to review that completely distinct product. We must instead review this for what it is... an advertisement. Native Isekai Defense: Prologue is a fun mix of action RPG combat and tower defense that I found more enjoyable than I expected. I play as part of the Pioneer Corps, fighting through corrupted territory while trying to protect the Ethereal Nexus and reclaim the land. I liked how the game combines direct third person combat with a defensive objective, because I am not simply trying to eliminate every monster on the screen. The combat is fast and fairly straightforward. I can control my character directly, use weapons and skills and move around the battlefield while enemies attack from different directions. I enjoyed having to stay active because the defensive objective means I cannot simply chase enemies wherever I want. I always have to remember that the Nexus is the thing I actually need to protect. The wave structure works well with this setup. Enemy groups keep arriving while I fight around the objective, and larger threats force me to think about where I should position myself. I liked that the combat can suddenly become much more chaotic, especially when several enemies appear at once. 23 hours in and the story hooks me more than I expected. The isekai world is well-built, and the prologue already hints at deeper adventures. A great start to a tactical fantasy series.
