About Subaeria
Master tactical combat by manipulating enemies and the environment to turn them against each other while piloting both Styx and her drone through an underwater city of deadly robots. Each roguelike run presents fresh puzzles and unlockable skills as you fight your way toward revenge against Subaeria's overlord.
Players follow Styx, a young girl who’s out for revenge after her family is murdered by the overlord of Subaeria. She must fight her way through droves of murderous robots by pitting them against one another. As she progresses towards her goal of revenge, she’ll explore the underwater city of Subaeria to uncover the mysteries that lie below the depths.
Features
- Pit your enemies against one another and the environment to defeat them.
- Use skills equipped to your drone to influence your robot ennemies and Styx.
- Every room is a puzzle to be solved with the skills you have on hand.
- Unlock different skills, buffs and skins at each playthrough
- Explore a new labyrinth at every play session.
The Game
Players can manipulate both Styx and a hovering companion, their Drone, to trick and influence enemies into defeating each other and themselves. Along the way, they’ll find many skills to upgrade their Drone and give them an edge needed to survive.
They’ll have to make strategic decisions in how they progress through the city and how they allocate their resources in order to survive long enough to witness the resolution of Styx's story.
DO NOT BUY THIS
WARNING: This game was released for Early Access over 5 years ago, and it was released in a VERY unfinished state, which is very sad because there's A LOT of potential here. THE GOOD: - The concept is awesome. You play as someone deemed a criminal in a post-apocalyptical world, because she was sentenced by an elite society to work for them, or to be killed by these robots called Cleaners. - Puzzle battles. Devoid of weapons, you have to trick yellow and blue Cleaners to kill each other in order to advance, or use the environment to kill them. You also find and use special powers called Apps, which help you fight, but they never do damage directly. - It's a rogue-like, so when you die, you can come back to a "different" maze. You can level up your Apps by using them, and the Apps levels carry over between your runs, so your special powers are stronger each time. - Boosters help. They give you "passive perks" that you can upgrade and make your life easier as well, but progress doesn't carry between playthroughs. THE BAD: - I managed to get through the 3 levels a couple of times and lost during the "final boss" fight both times (not sure if it's really the f…54 found this helpful
Absolute garbage. Entertainment vacuum. After 1 hour of play, I haven't made any progress whatsoever. That's because, due to intellectually challenged design, the game doesn't save. Not during a mission, not on exit, never. Studios Illogika are happy to waste our precious time. They have wasted enough of mine for a life time; they are blacklisted. 0/10. And that's without counting the art, which is not only ugly but also impractical, incomprehensible. I can never say which height anything is supposed to be, what's a barrier, what's movable... There is no zoom, no rotation, nothing remotely pleasant or useful.8 found this helpful
Subaeria is surely an oddball of the rogue genre, somehow at some point did find it and play it, now years later pick it up again and beat it. Why is it oddball though? Well it's roguelike where you don't actually fight yourself, instead using Styx's (main character) mobility and jumping you keep away from enemy cleaner robots that will destroy each other in collisions, explosions and so on. These enemies consist of three colours which are blue and yellow aka counted, destroyable enemies and greys that can beat up them both. Every yellow and blue bot needs to be destroyed in room to be able to continue to any other room block in the map. Bots have several different from and sizes that can be helpful to break storage boxes in rooms to get resources to be able to buy all kinds of upgrades, food pills, health pills or apps. Completed rooms stay open and you can go back at them and even collect dropped items from the floor later on, as they won't vanish. Which is really nice thing to have, too many games have time limit to pick drops or they will vanish, which is really annoying at parts. Most of the rooms are normal clean up rooms aka destroy all cleaners, few speak bubble rooms whi…6 found this helpful
If you prefer video/voice, you can watch the same review here. The game is developed by illogica studio, who you might know as developers of another puzzle game - Hitman GO, which was initially released for mobile platforms but recently has made its way to Steam as well. Subaeria has been out for some time, but I only got around to record it now because of the technical issues it had at the start (some of them remain to this day). So, this is a rogue-lite action puzzle game. The target is to clean your gaming debt while evading evil robots who are out to kill you for it. The catch is - you don’t have any weapons or equipment to fight them. You have to manipulate those pesky robots into destroying each other. And to help you with this, you have a personal drone. You will find various abilities and powerups for him, that are also limited to manipulating robots. Like say, take over robot control, or stun robot, or make robot go berserk and attack its allies. So, in the end it comes down to use of the environment and enemies’ abilities against them. I wish they would invest more into player-environment interaction though - currently the only w…2 found this helpful
Really REALLY fun game! It has such a fun and unique concept that creates a challenging game where you have to move quickly whilst trying to figure out your next move as fast as possible. I also find the way the game looks and the art to be phenomenal! I thoroughly enjoyed playing it at PAX East and now I am grateful for the opportunity to play it at home. The game runs smoothly and looks stunning! I only have a few suggestions, the first is to change up the tutorial's look or at least have a prequel to the tutorial with Styx because many people joining the game might not know that fuzzy look that the tutorial has is just for the beginning. I personally didn't quite like it compared to the pristine beauty of the game outside of the tutorial. The second is to perhaps fix the jump a little bit because many things that can be climbed are actually hard to jump up, creating a lot of time standing at a wall and jumping at it. Finally, perhaps a few checkpoints? I was enjoying the game going through and exploring the whole map picking up sniffs when I closed the game to go eat, coming back to a completely erased game. It would be nice if there was a way we can stop playing and come back …
I played this at PAX East 2016 and it was fantastic. Easily the best game there. One note; playing with KB + M is very hard as there is no sensitivity slider that I have found, if there is one and It can't find or one is added then I would consider this game an amazing game
