'The Falling Star' is a first person exploration, narrative driven walking simulator. It features a dreamlike journey in which the protagonist uncovers the story behind her missing aunt’s past, with atmospheric environments, a meditative soundscape, light environmental puzzles, and 6 Steam achievements. The game took me about 40 minutes to complete, including unlocking all achievements, and it delivers a relaxing and enjoyable experience despite its short length. As a free title, it offers a single ending and does not include a save feature. The simplicity of the gameplay makes it accessible to players of all skill levels, with clear guidance and a straightforward objective: uncover the truth behind your missing Aunt Jiang and begin to understand the family stories left unspoken. I would rate the difficulty as 1 out of 10. 'The Falling Star' is a short but deeply moving narrative adventure that leaves a lasting emotional impact. In just 30 to 40 minutes, it tells a thoughtful story about grief, memory, and unspoken family truths. The dreamlike setting feels personal and intimate, drawing the player into a world where imagination and memory gently blend together. The game’s storytel…2 found this helpful
Very short but touching narrative game. There is not much gameplay here, its a walking sim, but if you have 45 Minutes to listen to a little story, Id reccomend, especially since its free. I wish the walking was slightly faster, but the slow walk also fits the somber modd1 found this helpful
"The Falling Star" is a low key asset flip, a bunch of other people's assets assembled badly to make a basic game. Typically this kind of thing is done by amateur developers without sufficient budget, talent and/or staff to do the job of game development professionally. It's then quickly rushed into Steam Direct. And, unsurprisingly, this never results in a product with any quality, interest, or value for gamers. This is a poorly optimised and totally pretentious "art not game" experience where you take on the role of a little girl (why are amateur developers so obsessed with little girls) and walk through a bunch of COMPLETELY mismatched game assets while cringey bits of e-book poetry get thrown at you. Games this bad make me want to throw my toaster in my bath. I actually had more fun with this spotting the different flipped game assets than the actual game. I guess I've reviewed enough Steam garbage now that flipped assets are getting more and more recognizeable. Anyway, since when does a single game use both low poly pine trees (you know the ones) and highly detailed tree models at the same time? God, what a mess. At least try to be consistent when plagiarising the work…1 found this helpful
An earnest and genuine game. I thought the story was good, the walking speed could have been slightly faster.1 found this helpful
A short, emotional walking sim about how nothing in life really ever goes perfect but we're all just doin our best as we go along. It's a very genuine and earnest story with a lotta heart in it, and especially considering this game is free I absolutely recommend it if you've got around an hour to listen to this beautiful tale about a family's grief and long-kept secrets.
Synthesized narration in poor audio quality ruins it for me. Beside that, the game has a mediocre story, poor and incoherent graphical assets, poor sound assets, and mediocre controls. With human narration, higher quality assets, and way more polish, there could have been something worth playing. Avoid.
