About Trans Agent X

A top-down bullet-hell dodger.

In a galaxy far far away... Oh, wait, no. We're still in our solar system.
Anyways. After the gender war, transgendered people fled to a new planet and made it their own. Earth being completely devoid of trans people could not survive because of it and annihilated themselves.

You, should you choose to accept this mission, will revisit this post-apocalyptic earth, evade horrible hurtful memories, and retrieve the lost dignity of the, now ghostly, cisgendered people for closure.

Trans Agent X is a top-down bullet-hell dodger - a game that explores topics of growth, healing, and trauma.
Every enemy in the game depicts a narrative fragment of the "treatment" transgender people in norway suffered from rikshospitalet. These fragments were collected from the norwegian transgendered community, norwegian media, and personal experience.

A full list of the enemy statements can be found on the game's open source wiki page.
Developed over two months, this solo project is one of many controversial games the developer has made. Being able to artistically express yourself is a proven way to heal trauma and possibly also move on. This game hopes to achieve, for players who need it, through gameplay, to stir up hidden and muddied emotions, needs and thoughts.
Please take care of yourself and your loved ones.

✦ AI summary

Players are divided on this game. Those who enjoy it appreciate the short, challenging bullet-hell gameplay, customization options, and strong message about trans healthcare issues, though some note the price-to-playtime ratio feels steep. Critics find the difficulty curve punishing and unbalanced, with most bosses being trivial except an unfairly luck-dependent final boss, and feel the game doesn't measure up to similar titles like Nuclear Throne or Enter the Gungeon.

This game should not even be in categories next to Nuclear Throne and Enter the Gungeon. this game is a slog to play. It's just not fun. The difficulty curve for each level is so steep it might as well be a flat cliff. The bosses are all so easy, except for the final boss, which relies solely on luck to win. "Bullet hell" is right, but it's not fun at all. A good bullet hell is Nuclear Throne, or Enter the Gungeon. Nuclear Throne is $5 more, but atleast you get a playable game out of it. I beat the game this time, the last time i played one of this person's games, someone in the comments of my review got so mad at me. So, i beat this one. This is 19 minutes of my life i will not be getting back.

A fun and important game. Gameplay is mostly about avoiding getting hit, dodge dodge, dodge. Can be quite difficult, but stick with it and you'll beat it for sure. There are alarming quotes from norwegian health workers malking wildly inappropriate statements and question to and about their trans patients. If you think it will upset you, you can just focus on the rest of the game.

Fun little Game. The cost of the game might be too high for the length of playtime. But I feel its more like supporting an indy dev than justifying the price. Worth it

Very fun, and short game, obvious trigger warnings for those who need to be aware, but it comes from the in-game enemy. I love changing how my character looks on the move. The music is very good as well. If you are trans, like myself, or an ally, I suggest playing this to let out some frustrations or even just to pass the time. TRANS RIGHTS ARE HUMAN RIGHTS!

playthrough is in progress and, given the difficulty, might remain in progress. Trans Agent X is a hardcore bullet-hell rogue-like in a sci-fi post-apocalyptic setting. It highlights the obstacles the trans people face when interacting with the (Norwegian) healthcare system. The gameplay objectives consist of collecting quest items in a square arena while dodging the projectiles and hostiles, who represent the bigoted healthcare workers, then surviving against a boss for a specific amount of time. The protagonist is customisable (0-3 on the numpad), though the options reset on reload. There are pickups, such as health restoring items and shields. No difficulty or accessibility options are present. The controls are comfortable (WASD or arrow keys for movement), though not rebindable. The progress is saved between the levels. Tapping Esc twice, like one would do to pause and resume a game, leads to the Main Menu, which might be convenient, though not common. The graphics and sound design are clear, stylish, and expressive, and the animations are very fluid.
