About Unsouled

- Fast-paced, stylish combatEnemies in Unsouled react to every move you make. Keep your guard up at all times as the slightest mistake will be met with relentless enemy attacks.
- Expert controls and timingExecute various skill combos and counterattacks for maximum damage. Use the “Abyss” system to get a closer look at the game’s unique mechanics. Players may be tempted to turn down the difficulty settings, but mastering true combat requires practice.
- Chained attacksEach skill combo in Unsouled have their own unique triggers. Whenever using a skill, your character flashes for a brief second. Use this opportunity to turn your initial strike into a deadly series of blows by performing one skill after another. Learning each skill’s wind-down pattern is crucial to mastering chain attacks.
- CounterattacksCombos aren’t the only tool under your belt. The counterattack mechanics stay true to the high-risk, high-reward principle, allowing you to decimate multiple targets in one seamless attack when done correctly. Mastering the chain-counterattacks is key to turning the tide on your assailants.
- Interactive objectsSlamming an enemy against a wall, pushing them off the ledge, cutting a tree down to crush them, or even bringing down a large object to create a makeshift bridge are but a few of many ways to overcome various obstacles and threats in the game.
- Passive and Active SoulsYou may come across special Souls as you fight and explore. Passive Souls take effect immediately after being obtained, enhancing abilities, unlocking new skills, or upgrading existing ones. Active Souls are manually activated through button interaction which can unlock skills normally reserved for bosses, and are used for combos as well as escaping from enemies.
- Beautiful pixel art"Travel across five distinct locations each filled with unique retro style visuals with enemies that are spooky and fun.
Each individual pixel is affected by real-time lighting, meaning, you can enjoy the rich, vibrant pixel graphics in all its glory!"

Cool art style, neat cutscenes. Can't say a whole lot of good about the gamplay. Combat is ok, but the exploration is terrible. Half the time you can't tell where you need to go. It's way too easy to accidentally progress the main line without fully exploring the area. Camera is obnoxious and doesn't let you see where you need to go. It just wasn't any fun at any stage.2 found this helpful
It's an alright game, but when I got one of the soul from Act 3, the game got unplayable. I understand it tells you it's a cursed soul, but I expected something like take x% more damage or something that can be played around... But the debuff makes you freeze for 1 sec on every skill use. And since it's a fast pace game were skills are the bread and butter, the this is just a ridiculously bad game decision. I even tried editing my save to remove it before I gave up. Almost purged the game but I restarted a new game to finish it. I enjoyed the game, but that little part makes me done with it.1 found this helpful
Quick Summary: A beautiful pixel Quasi-cinematic game that is more action than souls-like with some flawed execution in both gameplay and storyline that really bring the game down that isn't worth the $20 price tag currently. -See Below for Deeper Review- Gameplay: The game uses souls (multi-coloured orbs ala onimusha) as currency to buy new skills/abilites to upgrade them. That's where the souls part for some would be. They are abundant and by act 5 you'll have enough to level up you're favorite skills. What the problem here is, the game uses a chaining system on attacks and dodges, but sometimes it dosen't register, other times it so clunky you break the chain knowing full well you did complete it. (Get good son?), but there's a option to turn on Auto-chaining and man that changed the game up to the point it also wasn't great. Yea, after turning on Auto-chaining i was bouncing around the stage killing things in cinematic glory, blocking and dodging it was amazing to see it blended with the pixel graphics, but i found my game became then too easy. Next thing i know the game was over in less than 2 hours feeling hollow. Balance is where this game, doesn't quite hit. I …1 found this helpful
Top-down 2D Ninja Gaiden with Onimusha's Issen counter In other words, a fast-paced technical action game with emphasis on aggressive crowd-control, with a risky but satisfying counter mechanic on top. There's a lot of contextual interactions that adds another layer of complexity to combat encounters as well. Maras, a prince of a fallen kingdom you control, comes with a lot of mechanics. He has a standard string, a charged attack, a number of command attacks (like dash attack etc.), a number of special attacks ("abilities"), and a number of super attacks. That's just for offense, he also has a guard, a "just" guard which links to a counter, the Issen counter (attacking at the exact moment an enemy attack hits) which could be followed up, dashes for repositioning, and a way to get out of hitstun. These actions are governed by three different resources: "Stamina (yellow bar)," "Soul Orbs (blue resource for Abilities)," and "Ghost Orbs (purple resource for get-out-of-hitstun)." The problem, as many reviews also note, is that the game tries to teach all of these in the first 10 minutes. But alas, Infodump just doesn't work. My advice is to learn as you go, and look up the tutorials (…1 found this helpful
The game is good, but needs more than one playthrough with a guide to be worth the money if not on sale. A lot of the game's content is locked behind a secret 2nd path.1 found this helpful
