I can take some pushing when it comes to less-than-friendly mechanics. [list][*][b]Limited Save tokens to stop you from save scumming?[/b] K. [*][b]Ammo stingyness reminiscent of Dunk: Eternal?[/b] Sure, whatever. [*][b]Extremely repetetive melee as your workhorse weapon?[/b] Alright. [*][b]Inventing tedious shielded enemies that kill the pacing, just to invent a flamethrower weapon that drinks fuel like a soccer mom on box wine?[/b] I mean, I guess.[/list] ...but what really wore me down was the level design. Or I should say, level layouts. You've got your hallways, you've got your arenas, and after a few fights in them they don't seem to pick up in inventiveness. The schtick stays the same. Honestly, something I can forgive. What I'm far less forgiving on is getting consistently lost, having poor indication on where to go or what to do on the very specific thing that's blocking my progress. First occurence was that I had to go press a specific button from red to green on a wall in a doorway somewhere that was decently hidden from view unless you dipped your head in, which I'm sure a few of you forgot to as a fight had just broke out. As far as boomer shooters go, not usually my thing... BUT THE Protagonist personality, voice acting, and story in this are top notch. The cinematics are GOLD! She's unhinged and will do anything for love. I want to play mostly because of the story now. ITs that good so far. As for the game, it feels like doom, hexen, heretic did but with more features. I think I might play it on normal instead of the harder setting to just enjoy the story. It really is that entertaining so far. The main character is fun.

One of the few commercial FPS releases that could be considered actually difficult. Plays like 3D Hotline Miami out of all things (with Quake elements). There is no FPS quite like Viscerafest. Unique and brutally difficult it's one my favorite FPS games of all time

I like this game despite the massive room for improvement. Once in awhile I ask myself I 'really' like boomer shooters, because IMO it's become the most oversaturated indie genre. With a majority of entries playing and feeling exactly the same. Occasionally you get a unique one. This one has you chaining between melee and guns, because ammo is scarce and you get health back from ripped apart bodies. However, it feels too scarce at times and your room for creative play isn't as wide as you think. Cool ideas, but it's not the most mechanically deep. Gun balancing is weird. Plasma blasters being an automatic weapon that quickly drains energy cells one by one makes sense. Your starting handgun using ten cells per shot, not so much. I'm not saying the scarcity is bad, but it take some players to get used to especially with how generous so many boomer shooters have been with ammo recently. The level design starts strong, but falls apart near the end. Viscerafest runs into the problem most of these kind of games do. Where the final chapter is annoying, bloated, and boring with how confusing the massive maze-like levels are and trying to test ideas that don't work smoothly. It would've r…

One of very few boomer shooters where the melee mechanic is not only useful, but equally as rewarding. Puzzles are fun. Platforming is great. Tons of fun modifiers, accessibility, and UI options. Really scratches the craving I have when it comes to boomer shooters.
