About Vlad Voievod Dracula. Episode 1 Manhunt

Experience the real, medieval Dracula

This game is about the real Dracula, the medieval voievode / warlord of Valahia. It is built around key historical events: Dracula's first ascension to the throne of Valahia. Vlad Tepes is held as a political prisoner / hostage at the Ottoman Court when he learns the Hungarians invade Valahia, killed his family and offer the throne to their own servant. In response, sultan Murad sends Dracula with an Ottoman army to take his rightful throne and stop Valahia from joining another crusade. But not everyone wants Dracula to rule, he has many enemies, even in the Ottoman capital of Edirne.

Different play styles

First of all this is a platformer, so mastering the character's mobility and momentum while crossing the terrain is a challenge in itself, and is part of the core experience. There are six playable characters, and every one of them handles differently. When you change the character, the experience is always fresh, and it comes with new strengths and weaknesses waiting to be mastered.

Vlad Voievod Dracula

Dracula comes in five variants, with five different swords and five different outfits. When you choose a sword, you commit to it the entire game. Each sword handles differently, and affects your mobility and combat tactics in different ways, keeping the experience fresh. (For beginners, it is recommended you start with the first or last sword).

Dracula's Knights

In the second level, you get to know Dracula and you get used to a certain play style. In level four, you will start to experience playing with Dracula and his knights, and you will change characters during play. Again, each one handles differently, so the experience will always be fresh!

The spies

In the third and the fifth level, you will play with spies, and the gameplay changes radically. There is less focus on combat and more focus on movement. To clear an area with a spy, you need to gather all three peaces of information scattered around the level, and at the end, get the map.

Very fun game so far! We need more games/movies/tv shows featuring Vlad. The real Dracula's life is far more interesting than Count Dracula imo.

A nice little Indie platformer, The game isn't to difficult and the platforming is solid for the most part, The music kind of is lacking though, Now for the one thing I didn't like.... the whole gimmick of switching characters mid levels, while some where alright to deal with the majority made the game way more difficult to play with the change in their movement speed and "slipperiness" while moving and some just not having the best methods of attacking. That being said I still think the game was good and would recommend picking it up on a sale and also recommend checking out the other games in the series which improve on the gameplay way more.
The monster rises...
PROS: Vlad Voievod Dracula Episode 1 Manhunt is a throwback title to 8-bit styles of games. Though the visuals are an improvement of that era, the gameplay sits firmly in that camp. The game has a variety of different characters that get swapped out through the campaign, & though some play in similar styles, some do have a range different from Vlad. Vlad also has access to secondary, long range weapons for assistance. The story is a psuedo-fictional retelling of the age of the dragon, though can easily be skipped over for those uninterested in it. The visuals have a very clear pop to them, with each enemy's different appearance a clear indicator of how they both move & attack. The backgrounds also have that nice touch of additional personality with each new location. CONS: The controls have a bit too loose of a feeling, with each character moving as if they were on ice. Some of the characters also feel incredibly unfun to play as, uniquely heavier characters having far more limits in how they both move & attack. The game is a little short, those it seems to be gearing up as an episodic series. While a minor note…

So far this game for me is difficult. It is hard. I suck at it. And...it's still charming! Despite my skill issues so far this is an easy recommend for the style, premise, and quality. Love the retro vibe, the setting, and doing a more historical take on Dracula. I will be playing this one again hoping I get better at it. But if difficult games frustrate you and you can only die so often without getting angry you might wanna skip it or wait for a sale. Still I've already wishlisted the future games in the series.

Just got done playing this game from start to finish. So lets get this review started! This game will challenge you but its not unfair. It's all about timing and patience, knowing how many hits to kill an enemy or simply waiting for the right time to jump. The platforms is good and doesn't feel impossible or cheap. On the art side, its pretty good and how much detail it packs into those pixels. I especially the background and the layering. Through the game you can play with various characters, each with their unique way of fighting. So the archer can shoot enemies long distances but wield a very short dagger or the there's one with a shield and mace that can block projectiles but the swinging is slow. Then when you move around some of them can feel a bit on the slippy side, so be careful when your jump or build momentum. The story follows Vlad "Dracula" (not a vampire) Tepes a.k.a Vlad the Impaler as you follow key events as he fights the Hungarians from invading Valahia. The history can be read via text after the first stage, although I hate that it kept scrolling even though I was still reading it. Other than that, thee scrolling text doesn't appear after that stage. The histor…

I got an opportunity to play this game as a Demo and I really enjoyed it. I was never a huge fan of platformer games but this one's historical story really drew me in and forced me to be a better platform player. I didn't think I would like how punishing the game is but I just can't stop playing it. I've never been one for old school games but this one quickly made me change my mind about the genre. If you're wondering whether or not it's worth getting into it, I say take a chance and you might have a great time! I know I have.
