Assassin’s Creed III was a major change for the series. Leaving behind the Renaissance cities and Ezio Auditore, it moves the conflict between Assassins and Templars to Colonial America during the American Revolution. The result is an ambitious game with excellent ideas, impressive environments, and a more complicated protagonist, but also pacing and mission-design problems that keep it from reaching the heights of Assassin’s Creed II and Brotherhood. The story follows Ratonhnhaké:ton, better known as Connor Kenway, a young Mohawk man who joins the Assassins after his village and people become caught in the conflict surrounding the Revolution. Connor's motivations are personal, but his journey eventually brings him into contact with many major figures and events from the period. Connor is very different from Ezio. He's more serious, direct, and idealistic, which can initially make him seem less charismatic. Over time, however, his personality fits the story being told. Connor wants to protect his people and genuinely believes the Revolution can create a better society, only to repeatedly discover that the interests of the revolutionaries don't necessarily align with his own.
