About Gemini Rue

✦ AI summary

Play as two characters unraveling a dark sci-fi mystery across a rain-soaked galaxy where identities are currency and redemption comes at a price. This narrative-driven adventure combines hand-drawn noir visuals with an innovative investigation system that puts you in control of uncovering a conspiracy that could reshape the fate of entire worlds.

Azriel Odin, ex-assassin, arrives on the rain-drenched planet of Barracus. When things go horribly wrong, he can only seek help from the very criminals he used to work for.

Meanwhile, across the galaxy, a man called Delta-Six wakes up in a hospital with no memory. Without knowing where to turn or who to trust, he vows to escape before he loses his identity completely.

As fate brings these two closer together, we discover a world where life is cheap, identities are bought and sold, and a quest for redemption can change the fate of a whole galaxy.

Key Features:

  • Over 60 hand-drawn backgrounds
  • A moody, film noir atmosphere
  • Control both Azriel and Delta-Six
  • An innovative investigation system
  • A gripping sci-fi mystery
  • DVD-style commentary track

✦ AI summary

Gemini Rue is a retro point-and-click adventure praised for its atmospheric sci-fi noir storytelling, pixel art, music, and world-building that accomplishes a lot with minimalist design, though players frequently mention getting stuck due to obtuse puzzle logic and inventory systems that sometimes require walkthroughs. The game is marred by awkward action sequences and particularly poor gunplay segments that most players recommend skipping on the easiest difficulty, but fans of classic adventure games generally consider it a worthwhile experience despite these frustrations.

Was one of my first point-and-click adventure games. Beaten in 2013. Looked like trite overdramatized garbage with quality atmosphere. Now, 13 years of gaming later, seems like a decent work plot-wise when measured against the overall industry average. Does the change in perception indicate the industry's collapse or mine?

Been sitting in my Steam library since 2011, has a very Blade Runner feel without feeling like a copy. The writing, atmosphere and world-building do a lot with very little, and I really got into the storyline. By the end I was pretty invested in finding out where everything was going. I got frustrated and stuck a few times, e.g. was I doing things in the right sequence and using the correct items (the obtuse inventory system may have contributed to this) and I had to use a few walkthroughs but when something finally clicked, it was rewarding and kept me playing. A neat adventure game with a cozy art style and music that actually makes you stop and think rather than constantly pointing you towards the answer. Really glad I finally played this.

(Finished on another platform) Insanely impressive work by Joshua Nuernberger who developed this solo, which caught be my surprise when finding out about it only after finishing the game. Some minor action sequences that fortunately aren't too painful but still feel somewhat out of place, but that's only really a minor gripe. On balance, fantastic game that point & click fans should definitely have on their radar.

An interesting sci-fi story with a nice soundtrack, decent voice work and great pixelart... and the worst gunplay in any game ever. Seriously, just turn it to its easiest setting and try and forget about it
