About Dark Light: Survivor

Dark Light: Survivor is a roguelike survival game where you play as one of the last humans, journeying through a shattered multiverse in search of the fabled Elysium.

The Dark Void has unleashed horrific creatures that decimated humanity and fractured the multiverse. Amidst this chaos, a legend speaks of an Elysium untouched by the darkness.

The remnants of humanity have uncovered celestial quantum technology, using it to construct the Phantom Train, capable of traversing the multiverse.
As a Dark Hunter, you are aboard the Phantom Train, hoping to reach Elysium. In each universe, you must collect energy to power the train for the next leap. Prepare yourself to face increasingly terrifying and powerful creatures, for the journey is perilous, and Elysium remains elusive.

When the game's trailer and concept was first announced, I was sold. The idea of a survivor like game that reminded me of titles like Smash TV and Alien Shooter really stood out to me. Add the ability to swap the camera from the usual overhead view to over-the-shoulder and I was excited to try it out. The execution was a bit shaky at first, but the current build of the game is a lot of fun. I find my desire to test different weapons, runs, and power through endless mode keep me coming back. This game is a Survivor-like, although it takes a bit more dexterity and skill to get the most out of the game. It's way harder than some games to build an overpowered character and sit tight. The game also doesn't auto shoot for you unless you turn the option on. The best way to play in my opinion is to dive in, focus up, and fire away! Overall, a fun game worth your while if you just want to shoot a LOT of monsters.

I'm not usually a fan of roguelikes, so I was honestly surprised by how much I enjoyed Dark Light Survivor. The dark, grim aesthetic is great, but the highlight for me is the camera system. Seamlessly switching between top-down and third-person perspectives is something I rarely see done this well. The constant barrage of enemies can become a little repetitive, and I sometimes wish I could explore the world more freely, like in the first Dark Light, which I loved. But once you get into the rhythm of the combat, it becomes very enjoyable. It's still in Early Access, so there's plenty of room to grow, but I really like the direction and atmosphere. If you enjoy roguelite shooters set in a dark sci-fi world, this is definitely worth keeping an eye on. If you want to check my review: https://youtu.be/lgbran6i7gc

Great ideas, but they don't really come together as a cohesive experience. Enemies despawn as they move too far away from the main character, to the point where you can literally watch them disappear from your screen. On the other hand, enemies can also spawn directly on top of you. This is especially annoying in third person, since you can suddenly have an enemy appear at your feet and explode when killed, leaving you with almost no time to react. The waves also don't seem to properly scale with how long you've been playing. Depending on how many minutes have passed, there doesn't seem to be enough enemy spawns to justify being that far into a run. It feels like there's not much progression in difficulty, just the occasional introduction of new enemy types. Games like Hades or Elden Ring Nightreign make you want to experiment with different builds and strategies in every new run. Here, the gameplay can start feeling repetitive pretty quickly. The melee combat doesn't help either — it feels stiff and lacks weight, while the animations and enemy hit feedback still feel somewhat underdeveloped. Overall, it's a good game with some genuinely great ideas, but it needs more polish. T…

I love the original Dark Light Metriodvania experience, and this game continues the same interesting world - it's a very fun survivors-like and has a cool, dark setting.

Could be a great game if enemies didn't spawn directly under you. some of them blow up too. kills your run really fast. takes the fun out of it.
