While I respect it, Death of the Outsider just has too much jank with its combat to be viable... Truly, I do appreciate the changes it makes to the Dishonored formula. The slight alterations with powers and mechanics means each game isn't an exact carbon copy of the others. That said, though, for how many times you fight human enemies you'd think it'd be polished by now, right? Yet, it's a crap shoot whether a block will register with enemies. That sounds minor, but given that most "stealth" games devolve rapidly into the archetypal Yahtzee-coined "screw-up cascade" and what am I supposed to do when half the map is rushing at me? The last resort mechanic, blocking, that hinges on player skill with button timing and character placement and now it doesn't even work all of the time...cool game. Plus, the game is buggier than ever before. The first mission in and I block a dog's attack only to get vaulted straight through the map at escape velocity...Cool. Game! In a world where we can just play the original, there is no reason to play this jankier, buggier version. Skip it.

Dishonored: Death of the Outsider was good. It felt like a small side story for Billie Lurk while giving us more about the Outsider. I think it could've been a DLC for Dishonored 2, but making it standalone worked too. The level design was great, but I felt the replayability was lacking, and I would've preferred having the Chaos system. I also hoped we'd see Dunwall again, but Karnaca was still beautiful, so I wasn't disappointed. Overall, a good Dishonored experience, just smaller than the previous games.

Wasn't expecting much from what I'd seen about it but I am enjoying it more than the previous two games. Surprised me too. The overall story *is* weaker but... the contracts and missions are just more engaging here. I don't normally do side quests but the contracts are novel and I really enjoyed them. Tail someone, kill someone and make it look like suicide etc. Although it's often labelled as an overpriced DLC for D2 I really don't get that at all. I'm about ten hours in and I'm near the end of the 3rd mission of 6 overall. Changes to the powers system work well and you have a novel set to use and there's less pressure to chose the "right" ones as you get them by default. Level design is also very good. This runs at 120fps on Steam Machine on very high settings and 60fps on Steam Deck OLED at low, which still looks great. I really can't get enough of the Dishonoured series, it's class.
