FINAL FANTASY V

Best version of the best classic 2D FF imo. Great remaster ost and the option for classic music. Boost mechanic allows for faster playthroughs and cool challenge runs. Adding more replay value to a already replayable game. My thoughts on the changes to the gameplay are positive for the most part like buffing classes like monk, dancer, and dragoon. Giving bows and whips more added utility. Being able to skip turns like future games with the ATB system. This game itself is fun even after 30 years later. Very worth picking it up on a sale.

Great combat and story

Another fun FF game. Great improvement of the job system from FFIII. Nice to have characters with personality.

I think people have too much nostalgia for this one. The class system at its time was probably amazing but as of 2026, its lacking heavily. You can't even use more then one ability in the class your playing as and you can only inherit one from any of the other classes you've mastered. The whole point is to be able to turn back into a freelancer where you can freely choose "two" of those abilities but even then thats pretty basic compared to FF4/FF6 where you just get the abilities outright. The story was terrible and the sprites some how were worse then ff4. I got to Ex Deaths world and didn't want to waste anymore time on it. Was worth the ten bucks for the first world atleast

I feel like the job system is both this game's biggest strength and biggest weakness. Biggest strength because creating your own party, figuring out how to get through fights, and ultimately becoming demigods of damage is a pretty fun experience; and biggest weakness because you get more jobs too quickly than you have the AP to really experiment with, and a lot of the true shenanigans are hidden behind experimentation that requires a lot of grinding or reading guides. Still, the game's reasonably well balanced, the plot keeps things breezing along, and ultimately it's a pretty good time. Not my favorite, but definitely worth playing.
