Voltaire: The Vegan Vampire

It has been three years since I last played this game, but I managed to pick it up quickly after starting a new save and then switching back to my old one. After spending a while battling enemies at night and tending to my crops at daytime I want to share my experience from playing as a vegan vampire. The game is relatively simple in what you have to do to make progress. While preparing for the next battle short quests appear to help you out on the way with XP, food or other stuff. Almost every action you take costs you hunger points, which increase until it reaches 100. Since you can only work until it is maxed out, logcially you want to keep it lower and feed yourself with the crops that hopefully are ripe by then. Some give you boosts to make it easier through the night. This game is probably my first experience with the "tower defense" genre in it and I am unsure wether I like it or not, but that is just personal preference. Part of me likes the excitement of the night with protecting the house, but at the same time I feel exhausted when in the meantime my crops get destroyed because I wasn't prepared to defend both at the same time. I'd love to recommend this, because visually it's great - but it's just... not good. The concept is great, but the flow doesn't work. You're stuck managing hunger while managing tower defense at night and it's just... not fun. Give it a go if you like being stressed and starting over and over again, but for me it quickly lost any appeal.

it looks cute is the nicest thing i can say about this game. i don't think it's a very fun tower defense or roguelike game.

I don't think I've felt more torn over a game than I have with The Vegan Vampire. Pros: The concept is charming and the graphics are cute. I thought that uncles Frank and Stein had funny dialogue and the quests they put out for you are simple enough to get done. As a beginner's tower defense game, this game shines. There is a skill tree you can reset if your house is destroyed (the game's version of game over) and you can mess around with different perks as needed for optimal defense. As a generally cozy gamer, I haven't button mashed this much since playing Mortal Combat with my brother. For more experienced hash and slash players, this game might be too simple with not enough combat variation. Cons: The farming in this game is not great. It costs energy points to forage the crops, plant the crops, water the crops. Which is generally fine except that none of the crops really grow fast enough for you to benefit from them. You become hungry so fast that it is already night and if you have crops growing and haven't activated the tower in the middle of the plot, the enemies will decimate all your crops before targeting your house.
