Dragon Ruins II

I'm surprised Dragon Ruins II changed the formula from Dragon Ruins I so drammatically. Quests, equips, different dungeon layouts, skills, merchant haggling and chests add so much to the whole "dungeon crawler for tired people" that takes the less out of the mindless. I didn't mind it, but if you came from the first title expecting more of the same, it's very different. Top notch atmosphere and I do like the new tilesets for dungeons, compared to the black canvas of the first, but at the same time those black canvas were very much reminiscent of old DOS games like Ultima or Wizardry, which is a shame. In short, mileage may vary from person to person. I enjoyed it immensely, but being it neither a full fledged dungeon crawler a-la etrian odyssey or wizardry, and neither a mindless scrolling game, it sits in an awkward middle. Damned if you do, damned if you don't, right?

I just couldnt get into it. a lot of people who play this game sing its praises. im sure theres lots to like but it just wasnt working for me personally. I was dying a lot, and normally I wouldnt really be mad at that but the game literally automaticlly plays its self. if this was turn based where i picked the moves and i was dying i would have chalked it up to a skill issue. but as it stands right now i feel like the game just didnt teach me how to play the game properly or your actually just meant to die a bunch in your early runs to get strong enough to not die constantly.

There's lots to like and a very good core competency with the game's design. Sprinting through maps, auto battling, making the number go up, neat little stories. The stark map graphics help the portraits stand out. Issue is that the game is largely empty. And when you get into the bigger, more empty labyrinths the game gets boring. Map reuse is fine but the huge maps have no mark up, so finding the boss room again is a slog. There needs to be more in the peripheral to make this more than just a game where you fill in a grid.

Great Casual dungeon crawler

I found Dragon Ruins I to be an extremely simplistic game to it's own detriment. This was the game I wanted. The systems are simple, but not lacking complexity. Recommended as a simple Dungeon Crawler!

Very peak, very simple awesome art and music too. shouldve been goty last year !
