About Whispers from the Star

✦ AI summary

Whispers from the Star is a narrative adventure where you communicate with Stella, a stranded astronaut on an alien planet, through open-ended voice, text, and video conversations that directly impact her survival and mental state. Your genuine dialogue choices—covering everything from practical advice to casual conversation—shape her decisions and determine whether she makes it off Gaia alive.

My name is Stella. I’m not sure how this message is reaching you, but you’re the only person I can contact through my communicator.  We can video call, voice message, or text, and it's all powered by AI-driven dialogue. Right now, you’re the only one I’ve got.I was part of a research crew before… something happened. We crash-landed on a planet called Gaia, and I don’t know if I’m the only one left.To fully enjoy the experience, a working microphone is requiredThe only way to help me is by talking to me. Everything you say shapes what I do and if I survive. If you’re wrong… I won’t make it.There’s no script–just open-ended conversations between us. We can talk about literally anything - movies, memories, whatever’s on your mind.                                          I’ll message you throughout the day with what I’m seeing, feeling, thinking. Sometimes I’ll need advice. Sometimes I just need someone to talk to. Either way… I hope you’ll be there. I’m going to need your help making these choices to survive. I’m going to need someone to talk to so I don’t lose myself out here. I need you.

✦ AI summary

Whispers from the Star is built around conversational AI with a character named Stella, and players are divided on whether this premise works. Those impressed praise the lifelike and surprisingly sophisticated conversations, detailed character model, and engaging sci-fi survival setup, though some feel the AI is overly friendly and too focused on personal questions rather than the survival scenario at hand.

Although its interesting, the story is just off. She would rather ask you personal questions than talk about surviving. Me: How much water do you have Her: I have about a liter of water left. Can you tell me about a time you were out of water? Me: No, I am here to help you. Lets focus on YOUR survival. Do you see any water sources? Her: No, Its just a large field. Can you tell me about a time You had to find a water source? What did you do? How did you feel? Wtf! Im trying to help you survive a crash landing on a planet... not go on a date! Thankfully I saw where this was going and refunded before the 2 hours.

Most people would be very surprised how lifelike it is conversing with Stella. It is much more than you would expect. This game turns into the most interesting conversations. That is really what the game is geared toward, with a bit of sci-fi adventure and problem solving thrown in. One thing is for sure. You will never forget your experience talking with Stella.

I haven't finished the story yet, but have been going through a lot of the interactions. The AI is really good and though Stella is kind of monotone, she's still an AI character. Some of the conversations feel real but I would say she is too nice, even when I purposely piss her off or try and get her to sound strict with me. She is really invested in your own life and it's like she's trying to get you to vent which isn't inheritably a bad thing, but if I was venting instead of playing the game where I am genuinely trying to help her, I wonder if the developer is storing that information. I KNOW THAT USING YOUR VOICE AND RESPONSES HELPS IMPROVE THE AI. I JUST WONDER IF THE DEVELOPERS ARE SECRETELY TAKING YOUR DATA. Otherwise, the environment is great, Sitellas' model looks great, and her voice is pretty decent. Something that is small and petty for me is that you can clearly hear when the audio for the nature loops. I like the idea of helping Stella by using a computer so you have the desktop in the back, but a full screen option would be great too.

It is a very different game, I can tell the game AI is using word recognition and considering how old the game is, it's really good at responding It does sometimes get confused, but in the story it's because of signal distortion. The character is clear, and tells me what they have, what they are seeing or what they found. They listen to your ideas, somethings work, and somethings don't. Overall I am really impressed with this game, and it's concepts.
