Genuinely does not hold up to the original Evoland-- it's like if Chrono Trigger At Home came in lead packaging that you only notice to be a health hazard after eating half the bag. To comment directly on the game's problems: 1. The game cannot go five minutes without referencing some other property from gaming pop culture, kneecapping any worldbuilding that could have been established in an experience that is intended to be primarily story-driven. 2. The gameplay is shallow to make room for frequent genre shifts, resulting in a mediocre gaming experience at best and a keyboard-snapping experience at worst, especially when forced to go through a section that resembles a genre you don't enjoy. 3. The plot outside of the references is just as shallow as the references themselves. It feels like the developers spent more of their time crafting Le Epic References than anything else in this game, frankly. 4. The GB -> GBC -> GBA -> 3DS stylistic shifts are nice on a surface level, but you get a sense that the developers know very little about the mechanics of why games from past eras were designed in a particular way. Sorry if that's vague, all I can say is that the movement felt…2 found this helpful

Evoland 2 is super fun and a genuinely very enjoyable game. Was a breath of fresh air and I couldn't see the time pass! If you're like me and had a mixed opinion about the first game, don't hesitate and play this one, it's so much better!1 found this helpful
This game has a gimmick that it is EVERY game genre in one, and honestly it does it quite well. It's one of the more unique games I've experienced. Spoiler [spoiler] I HATE GAMES THAT END AND ARE JUST LIKE, "oh, it's a time loop", honestly made the entire story's payoff just feel like wasted time. The gameplay was good so I still will give it a thumbs up but I'm disappointed [/spoiler]
I got bored pretty quickly here. I applaud the game for trying to mash together so many genres and ideas but I don't think it succeeds at that goal.
