About battleMETAL

Overview

battleMETAL is a successor to the 90's mech simulators of old. A delightful modernization of commanding giant robots bristling with firepower.
Players choose and customize their war machines, and then drop into the blighted world of Geiserath. Players will be tasked with completing a variety of mission types and they must choose the best mechs and weapons to complete their objectives. The initial campaign offers 15 missions and 4 difficulty settings.

Gameplay

battleMETAL sits somewhere between Mechwarrior 2 / Earthsiege and Quake. Mechs have specific move speeds for forward, strafe, reverse, and each mech has unique speed values. Player do not have to manage torso alignment, however. Default controls are FPS style. Combat is very much a mech-flavored affair, all mechs have proper hit-locations with the ability to destroy targets piece by piece. Mechs can have up to 9 weapon slots, along with 14 weapons and 7 upgrade modules.

Players will have to manage their mechs energy, shields, armor, and weapons to find success in battle. Combat scenarios offer a large variety of play styles and
approaches to mission objectives. Weather elements are present as well; rain, snow, and fog.

Campaign

Rage through 15 campaign maps across desert, glaciers, and urban war zones. Follow a dark tale as a civil war triggers the arrival of something far worse...

Modding

did you know? battleMETAL game code is open-source and uses a common map-editing tool for map creation!
Players can tweak almost everything in the game's source code, and new maps can be built just like Quake mapping.

Networked Play

battleMETAL offers PvP in both Deathmatch and Team Deathmatch modes, as well as Co-Op support for the base campaign. Players will have to use port-forwarding to host their own servers.

your METAL is waiting. Lock-in and power up, DEAD_HAND.

It scratched a much needed itch! I've a deep fondness for the classic mechwarrior style games and this really is a solid fusion of that style with quake vibes and action. Mech selection, weapon selection, tactics you can take during the variety of missions all makes for a stellar singleplayer experience! aside from a few glitched optional objectives and a couple confusing directions, the campaign had me enthralled and eager to see what happens next! Absolute power trip the briefing for the mission "of ashen countenance" gave me was huge, and the twist ending had me looking at NG+ in a different light. I cant wait to play this with friends, the fact there's a coop is dope! The fact it was mainly one person making this is impressive!

Needs more work. Attacks don't feel like they hit, everything is a bit unpolished. Idk, just not really worth it.

If you are a big mecha fan, this is definitely a title for you. However, even as a big mecha fan, this is a tough sell. I do enjoy it I have to say it is more than just homage to the days of yore (EarthSeige and such), but feels like it is ripped straight from the mid-90s era. This in itself can be great for those that played those games, but it can feel very dated for those that didn't grow up on that era of mecha games. I was more of a console gamer back in the 90s, so SNES and Playstation/Saturn were the places I got my giant robot fix. The feeling is there, but the experiences are very different. Don't overlook it because it honestly deserves the time and attention.

While this game still feels very unfinished; I absolutely love what it's trying to achieve, and i'd love to see this game reach it's fullest potential.

If you like the classic style mech games, give this one a go! The developer is still supporting the game and still seems to be giving feedback on their discord. If you like support tiny game shops, this a good one to support.
