CHAOS;CHILD

PREFACE: I want to preface this review by reflecting on my experiences with the Sci;Adv series so far before delving into my thoughts on Chaos;Child specifically. If you would like to just read my review of Chaos;Child, scroll down to the REVIEW section of this post. Like many people, I was introduced to Sci;Adv through Steins;Gate. There's not much for me to say on Steins;Gate that hasn't already been said, its simply an excellently written VN and one of my favorite stories of all time. After finishing S;G and S;G 0, I eventually decided to try out some of the other games in the Sci;Adv franchise, which led to me playing Chaos;Head Noah I have many complicated feelings about Chaos;Head Noah. On one hand, it laid much of the groundwork for the Sci;Adv series, introducing many concepts which would be essential to understanding later titles. I also think that it has one of the most interesting protagonists in all of Sci;Adv in Nishijou Takumi. Many people think that the protagonist of Chaos;Head can make the game difficult to get through, and while I can understand where they are coming from, I think Takumi's characterization is one of the strongest aspects of Chaos;Head. I liked the game, but it's not for my taste, I felt as it sold me a bunch of smoke, there are definitelty some good moments here and there, but in the end it goes nowhere. Nono Route absolutely SLAMDUNKS all the other routes though.

Yet another Science Adventure VN. This is absolutely great sequel to Chaos;Head, which is required to read first to fully enjoy this one. Very minor reference(s) to Robotic;Notes is included, but not relevant for the main story anyway. First route you play is kinda "just ok" and feels like there is lot of plot holes. There are many characters that don't do anything relevant and feel like filler. However rest of the routes turned my opinion and fixed almost all issues I had with enjoying this. Characters that "didn't do anything" actually did stuff and had their part in the plot, which got even more interesting. 3.5/5

I can't express how indifferent I feel about this game. I think the story had the potential of blossoming into the caliber of greatness reached by Steins;Gate, but sadly they just slipped up a few too many times towards the end for it to reach those highs. Either way, it's still a great game, and I recommend it to anyone interested in getting into visual novels.

This game did things to my brainwaves. Great visual novel experience, but like C;H I'd say it's not for the faint of heart due to some of the visuals and dark themes.
