What Steam players say

Players praise this city builder as an addictive and uniquely engaging experience with deep customization that remains compelling nearly two decades later, with many returning to it repeatedly and appreciating the historical Egyptian theme and relaxing gameplay loop. Common complaints center on technical stability issues with the port and readability problems due to the game's age, though the core gameplay and performance on most systems are generally considered solid for the price.
An amazing and unique game from 2008. I find myself thinking about this game and coming back to it a lot. Addicting city builder with a lot of opportunity for building unique and personal city layouts. While playing the campaign and missions for the sake of completion is fun, I have more than once found myself playing beyond the mission parameters, lost in the relaxation of building up my city and making it beautiful. While it is a 2008 game, there truly isn't another city building game that scratches the itch for me like this game. 9/10 would recommend for the price.2 found this helpful
Children of the Nile: Alexandria is essentially more of what made the original game enjoyable. If you liked the base game, this expansion offers three additional scenarios centered around Alexandria, each with its own objectives and progression. The first scenario has you supporting Alexander's campaign by sending large shipments of food and bricks on multiple occasions. The second focuses on constructing the legendary Lighthouse of Alexandria while simultaneously supporting Caesar against rebel forces. The third—and by far the biggest challenge—asks you to transform Alexandria into a thriving metropolis by reaching 200 Prestige, establishing trade agreements with Rome, Athens, Carthage, and Babylon, and housing fifteen Luxury Townhouses for the nobility. One of my all time favorite games, and has been since 2008. Way more detail than you expect, and just a lot of fun. in 2026 I'm starting to have issues being able to read the font, but its nearly 20 years old and still runs great.
