This game IS enjoyable, but only if you have a particular flavour of brain worms. On an objective level, Exstetra is an unmitigated disaster. The graphics are shoddy, the balance is disastrous, half the skills are pointless, enchanting is a chore, the music is repetitive, there are only two dungeon designs for the entire game, [spoiler]the final dungeon uses [i]the exact same map five times in a row[/i][/spoiler], and so on. The story's a mess too - for the first act you have three cardboard cutouts of characters with zero personality, pacing is a disaster where characters will dump their backstory onto you out of nowhere in the last 20% of the game, and the third act's attempt at drama is completely nonsensical. It is genuinely [i]impressive[/i] how consistently the game messes up on every possible metric. And for me that's kind of beautiful. I'd say this game is a classic [i]kusoge[/i], something so bad it wraps all the way around to being fascinating. I found myself wanting to continue because I wanted to see what dumb plot point would come up next or whether they'd finally come up with a third dungeon design instead of making you walk through a forest for the ninth time. …

After finishing the game, the lack of a NEW GAME+, for a game of this type is really dumb. Like REALLY dumb. the game isn't good enough to play from start to finish 6+ times to get all the endings without having NG+. the only saving grace is that this game has is that it was only 20 USD during release week

I just finished this game and here are my thoughts. For a game that was only released on the 3DS in Japan, this was an enjoyable experience to play through. Sure this game has some flaws as with not really flushing out the plot, a lot of the battles being challenging, and not explaining how runes and equipment works so well however, this is an enjoyable RPG. If I have to give it a rating would give this one a 7 out of 10

Honestly just a really bad game. You CAN play without a controller but you cant change the key binds. Game play is kind of ♥♥♥♥♥♥ and felt laggy. I played games of similar design that played much, much better. Also pretty sure the png chat images of the characters are generative ai. Game is not worth the money. Should honestly just be free at this point.
