Detective. Lawyer. Jury. Judge. The Magistrate of Nakamachi is responsible for the well-being of everyone under his jurisdiction—and for the lives of those who violate the law. Fortunately, the magistrate doesn't work alone. His helpers' responsibilities include everything from police patrols to firefighting to paperwork. Mountains and mountains of paperwork.
- Shimei Ooka: The newly-appointed Magistrate of Nakamachi, and the game's main protagonist. A scholar and a bookworm, Shimei knows his business, but will he be able to live up to his father's legacy as magistrate?
- Rimu Hiraga: The tomboy inventor of the century! Rimu joined the Nakamachi magistrate's office as a junior officer, along with her childhood friend and stalwart companion Shimei. Her best talents, though, lean more to the mechanical.
- Sakura Toyama: The daughter of the Magistrate of Kitamachi. Brilliant, but headstrong; capable, but intensely jealous of the magistrate's office that should have been hers...
- Koume Kawai: A mysterious girl held in the magistrate's office jail in connection with a brutal murder. Kind, sweet, and clever—but what is she hiding...?
A band of vigilante police, outside of the direct control of the Shogunate—and, by extension, the magistrate—yet always willing to cooperate closely for the safety of the city. Their methods can be tough, but they're scarily effective. Together with the more transparent and accountable activities of the magistrate's office, these battle-hardened samurai are indispensable to the peace.
- Takeru Kondo: The commander of the Shinsengumi. As long as the magistrate is still a rookie, Kondo will remain the real power behind the Nakamachi magistrate's office, but he's always happy to educate the fledgling officials under his wing.
- Yamanami Ayaka: Vice-commander of the Shinsengumi. Yamanami is beautiful, charming, and extremely attentive to detail. She acts like a mother-figure to the whole Shinsengumi, keeping the dormitory clean and the day-to-day business running smoothly.
- Shino Okita: A tight-lipped and laconic ace swordswoman. Absolutely terrifying in a fight, Okita is the perfect enforcer. Underneath the surface, though, could she have a softer side too...?
- Toshikaze Hijikata: Childhood friend to Rimu and Shimei, and a highly-trusted officer in the Shinsengumi. Sloppy as he is in his private life, he's matured into an extremely reliable man.
Enjoy daily life in Oukacho, interacting with the townspeople, and building relationships with your friends and coworkers—until an incident disturbs the peace! Interview witnesses and suspects to collect information and build dossiers, investigate the crime scene for material evidence, and explore the town in pursuit of more clues. When you need a breather, explore your dormitory to get to know your friends better! Once your investigation is complete, hold a hearing with your suspects and key persons of interest to narrow down the possibilities and uncover the truth behind the lies!

It's similar to Ace Attorney, the plot surprisingly good with twist in the end. Romance option in the epilogue is also a plus. Yamanami route is the best. 8.5/10.1 found this helpful
Master Magistrate is a good visual novel that feels a bit weird to me. It feels almost like three different visual novels. There's the somewhat serious adventure style investigating and trial sections, 2/5 heroine routes are dramatic, and 3/5 heroine routes are full of light slice of life stories. All the characters present here are pretty entertaining. There's nothing too outside the norm here, all fitting fairly well into some standard stereotypes, but they're done well. Music is pretty well done, but also nothing outstanding. Systems are straightforward, game ran fairly well for me, only minor complaint is that you can't skip the endings ever, and they have small epilogue sections after, so you have to sit through them every time. Onto the story. I really enjoyed the tone of the adventure sections with investigating and trial. It even started off fairly serious with a murder trial and continued to stay with a more serious tone throughout. I'm not sure how everyone would fare, but if you're paying attention throughout all the investigating sections you should be able to complete the trials without much trouble, I got 100% through all of them without using a guide - Chapter…
Basically Ace Attorney set in the shogun era, with similar gameplay and some similarities to the story. The story is surprisingly well-written and the characters are likeable. The court trials are just okay. Overall, I recommend this game if you liked the story in Ace Attorney. Maybe pass if you're only interested in the court trials. There's an optional R18+ patch available outside of Steam for additional character-focused routes after the main game. I did not play it, so no comment there. As an alternative, there are some YouTube playthroughs of these extra routes with the 18+ content cut out. The main game itself is fairly light in terms of sexual content, with some fanservice and a slightly icky scene in the last chapter. The court trials (my favorite part about Ace Attorney games) were a bit disappointing. There are some leaps of logic in the arguments, and it often felt like the trials were resolved with the perpetrator confessing, rather than with clear proof. Granted, considering the setting of the game, you're not going to have evidence like photographs, video footage, and fingerprint analysis. There were also times where the game isn't clear about what evidence you need…
Deeper than I thought it would be from the way it started. Good VN, slow intro but when it gets rolling its great. Free patch for the NSFW stuff (not necessary). Impressed
