Sid Meier's Civilization VII

Disgusting money grab. Ive been a life long civ fan and this will 100% be my last time purchasing their games. Over 2 years since release and its an unfinished game... then they have the audacity to release the rest of the game in almost another 100$ in DLCs... awful

I feel like I got scammed, and I played this on a free weekend. I tried writing an actual review, but I stopped after realizing that I couldn't properly articulate what I don't like about this game without writing an essay. This isn't a game where it's mostly fine, but there's one rotten bit that ruins it. There's [i]layers[/i] to this. It is a multi-faceted complex and interconnected web of abysmal ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥.

The only reason I'm giving this game a negative review is the fact that the progression mechanic of the game requires internet connection. My internet went down the other day and I could not access my achievements and characters' bonuses that I unlocked. this is so dumb and unnecessary. The game is enjoyable, and I'm going to keep playing. I heard about how the devs at launch demonstrated their greed and hate for the fan base but heard they walked back their statements and apologized so I bought the game, but if I would of known that part of the game is only assessable through the internet then I wouldn't of bought. note the progression mechanic of the game is used in single player so there is no reason for it to be locked behind a internet connection. if they stop hosting or their server goes down the part of the game I paid for is forever gone.

So. Would I recommend playing Civ 7? It's not a simple answer. The game launched in a very poor state *on top* of challenging the very foundations of what it means to be a Civ game. Looking back, the ages system was bound to rub some fans the wrong way even if it had been executed perfecly, which it wasn't. Today still, there are still a lot of things I think could be improved, and all of them have to do with clarity. More clarity on what my policies are going to do for me. More clarity on which parts of my city I was planning to turn into a production district 10 turns ago. Someway, somehow, more clarity on whether I *really* want to put down that sawmill here or that gristmill there. Because once you've placed it, you're stuck with it. Buy alerts. Map tacks. I could go on. But the question isn't really "Is this game what it could or even should be?", is it? The question is: am I having fun while playing this game? And the answer to that is, actually, yes. I like the ages system. I like how it gives identity to each part of the game, and I actually like the soft resets that allow me to work towards tangible goals and checkpoints that keep the game more manageable. …

This game has alot of haters who just don't get it. Every Civ game is different. They require you to LEARN the new style, and this time they are also taking feedback from the players as they expand the game. The early launch was pretty awful, but they have really turned it around.
