Players appreciate the solid tactical gameplay, graphics, and effort put into both campaign sides with lore and characters, though many find the Genestealer mechanics unintuitive and frustrating. Major complaints center on severe AI turn speed issues (especially with Genestealers), numerous bugs that block progression, poorly explained tutorials, and a difficulty balance that feels heavily skewed toward the Genestealers with excessive spawns and fragile Terminator units that make success feel dependent on RNG rather than strategy. The game is recommended mainly for those familiar with the orig
I cannot recommend that anyone buy this game. I don't really see any redeeming factors in it. Whether you like turn based strategy games, or the original game, this holds nothing for either fan. The first major problem is the speed at which the enemy AI takes their turn. Playing as the Space Marines, thankfully it doesn't take too long for the Genestealers to take their turn. Unless they end up spawning dozens of creatures onto the board, in which case they will move them all around and waste a ton of time. Playing as the Genestealers was pure torture, as enemies would take 10-15 seconds to decide on opening a door, or whether to go on overwatch, after taking 10-15 seconds to move forward a space. Absolutely rediculous and, I think, probably very badly broken. As for the game, there is really no fun to be had in it. I will be commenting mainly on the Space Marine campaign, as I couldn't even get through the first mission of the Genestealers. The random nature of the game combined with with extremely low base probabilities for shooting, and even lower in melee, means that unless you utilize overwatch every turn, your units will die. I missed four shots in a row on a Genestealer on…3 found this helpful
Game is good, especially the first person camera perspective is very immersive. The only problems are that the text is way too small to read on a tv and that kill camera doesnt play if you are controlling a different unit from fps mode at the end of the round. I will postpone playing this game for these reasons. Otherwise, seems pretty decent
“Waaah…the game is too difficult for me…sob…sob…” The game is very visually beautiful and customization of space marines is incredible. All four chapters received very good treatment. The graphics are very good especially compared to other games where 40k is made to look like a child cartoon. I’m sick and tired of mainstream games like DoW making universe look as if the average consumer is 10. I only wish developers released at least one DLC with new units, cosmetics and space marine chapters.
I like this game it has flows and it has bugs sometimes you can complete secondary objective but game doesn't count it and doesn't give you award gameplay for tyranids is based on strange non-intuitive mechanics and at first feels frustrating but devs put a lot of effort here and after first small space hulk game and second bigger and better game this is really big project and great accomplishment it has campaigns for both sides, with lore, narrative, characters and dialogs it has beautiful graphics, that is not so dark as was in previous games but it's not a problem for me they removed leveling up for soldiers from second game but returned back squad points from first game also they added some cards game mechanics that I don't like but this is their game in general this this very solid third installment in space hulk series and if you liked first game, you definitely must try this
So bugged that the moment the Genestealer campaign map appears, you can't progress to a next mission. It may be, because the first mission prematurely forces you to leave (due to the "Success" it states across the screen), although you've only killed 2 instead of the 3 terminators of your objective. Or maybe it's worse than that, as the awful game UI doesn't try to explain anything during the first mission, and the fact the tutorial "tips" keep getting in the way and refuse to leave - and they only explain enough for you to end your turns as if you didn't have 10-20 important questions yet unanswered. Either way, this game is bugged. I reckon it's fun if you play with a friend and you're both familiar with Space Hulk, but if this is your introduction to the (board) game, then I'd advise extreme caution. There are "bugs" in this once-promising hunk of space junk, and I'm afraid no army of terminators is on their way to save you. TL;DR Get is super cheap, if at all, and have someone to play with.
A solid tactical game with very unintuitive controls. Do yourself a huge favor and immediately disable the first-person camera. The biggest barrier is the abysmal control scheme they made up for it. Stay strictly in isometric and learn the hotkeys. Also you can queue actions and your turn end as units move, so you don't just have to sit there watching your Terminator shift like a tectonic plate. The w/r is mostly in Genestealers' favor. Not that that's a bad thing, it's in-flavor for the setting, but you will absolutely be stressing over every action your squad makes while your buddy is spamming scores of xenos. The map editor's "meh". Environments are pretty ugly and there's not an option to mesh the aesthetics of any of them like how Space Hulks are described. It could certainly do with more tile options. I would recommend this if you have a friend willing to suffer its bizarre design. Just be sure they know what they're doing too, otherwise rounds will last a very, very long time.
