ENSLAVED™: Odyssey to the West™ Premium Edition

Fun game. I played it when it came out on the XBox 360, and I enjoyed it. A great trip down memory lane and still a lot of fun. I would recommend it

Enslaved: Odyssey to the West is a classic hack’n’slash style, 3rd person, action adventure game. You play as male protagonist Monkey, aided by female protagonist side-kick Trip. I had always liked this game and had always thought it isn’t talked about as much as it deserves. Pros: + Fun old-school hack’n’slash style gameplay with additional mechanics for climbing, dodging, blocking and shooting + Great post-apocalyptic USA setting and level design + Great character design and development + Movement/traversal is similar to that of Jak & Daxter games + Linear gameplay, also not too long and not too short at 8 to 10 hours + Runs well + Decent amount of settings for this pc port + Premium Edition includes all free DLC Cons: - Cannot lock-on to enemies when fighting multiple - Story is fairly generic, albeit not bad - Voice acting is hit and miss, also some audio bugs - Soundtrack is fairly generic and unmemorable - Gameplay has some jank, poorly designed boss sequences, and very little enemy variety - Does not support resolutions above 1080p, nor does it have HDR, PlayStation button glyphs, or reconfigurable controls - The HUD and text don’t scale well with 1080 resolution, display…

I remember trying to play this game on the Xbox 360 years ago and not really jiving with it, but it was one of the first games I installed on my Steam Deck and it just grabbed me once I started it up. The graphics still hold up, the combat was fun, and I enjoyed the story overall. It also worked flawlessly on the Deck. I would 100% recommend this game to anyone who enjoys action games.

Great game that I never heard of until 15 years later. Runs great on steam deck, pretty much max settings. Can be set to 800p and has no problem running at 1080p if playing docked. The only issue I had was offline saves. Something about how this game stores save files makes steam cloud unable to find and sync save data. I played through a few chapters while offline, and usually steam cloud will automatically sync when I can connect to wifi, but for this game my offline progress was lost when I connected back to wifi. No problems when playing while on wifi. This should disqualify a game from being steam deck verified imo... since it's a mobile device that will likely be offline sometimes. The story is simple but the post-apocalyptic world is interesting. The graphics still hold up, the world looks beautiful. I was really impressed by the facial animations, they felt more expressive and life-like than some modern AAA titles I played recently. The voice acting is also top tier. The gameplay does feel dated, platforming can feel clunky but also smooth at the same time...it really restricts where you can climb/jump/grab, so it can feel like the movement is on autopilot. It's well made, the voice acting is good and there is a lot to admire but that ending is very dumb. Why do the mechs and people act that way if THAT is the ending?.....If that ending made sense then there would be no reason for hostility. Would have been nice if the game was half as long.
