About Powerboat VR

✦ AI summary

Powerboat VR puts you at the helm of realistic vessels ranging from speedboats to massive cargo ships, navigating dynamic oceans with authentic physics, weather systems, and navigation tools across a sprawling 300km² map. Whether you're chasing cargo missions in career mode, exploring in free play, or commanding your ship by voice in VR or standard monitor, this early access simulator delivers an immersive powerboating experience with extensive customization options and regular updates.

Please note that this is an EARLY ACCESS game and, while there is plenty to do, it is not yet complete, bug free or fully optimised.

Take the helm of a variety of different boats/ships from small spor/power boats all the way up to oil tankers, cargo vessels and prestigious motor yachts in this realistic ship simulator.

No VR? No problem! The game is fully playable on a standard monitor. However, it is certainly best experienced in VR - sick bucket not included!

Accurate water and buoyancy physics mean each vessel reacts uniquely and realistically to the variable weather and sea conditions while RADAR, SatNav and buoys (based on real world IALA A buoyage system together with AtoN/NavAid lighting systems) provide a realistic navigation experience, especially in poor weather or pitch black night time sailing.

"CAREER MODE" need some purpose when piloting your ship? This mode creates random cargo and passenger transport missions between the islands adding a "light" career mode to the game. Earn money and work your way up from a small sport boat to the larger vessels.

"FREE PLAY MODE" allows you to drive any of the available vessels instantly and is perfect for those who simply want to sail around the map enjoying the scenery or for those who want to brush up their real world powerboating skills.

"VOICE COMMANDS" latest update adds speech recognition to the game allowing you to control your ship from the comfort of your captain's chair.

This game is continually updated on a regular basis with new boats, islands and other features. Please view the forum for Dev Notes & Previous Update History.

✦ AI summary

Powerboat VR is praised by players for its solid graphics, responsive VR implementation, realistic physics, and peaceful free-roam experience on vast ocean environments, with many appreciating the career mode and responsive developer support. However, some players report frustration with control issues, particularly with WMR motion controllers and steering functionality that occasionally fails to work properly, and the game does experience occasional crashes as it's still in early access.

If you enjoy motor boating, this gives a reasonably similar experience/sensation. Works with WMR HP Reverb out of the box. It's great when you get a some calm weather and smooth seas and the sun is going down and then having to face rougher seas at night trying to come into a harbour. There is a game mode (business/logistics) but I just enjoy free play/roaming. There are a few VR related settings to tweak to give a better user experience but otherwise is pretty easy to dive in and enjoy.

Was seeking a new VR experience so I opted to give this a shot. It's pretty good for what it offers especially how well it runs on my NVIDIA RTX 2070. There aren't that many VR games that put you on the water and allow you to explore a vast ocean environment in this fashion. It's pretty fun once you make adjustments & get your external controller working properly. I'm sure it would be more fun with a steering wheel but I was ok playing with my XBOX ONE S controller. For whatever reason, playing with WMR motion controllers was difficult. I couldn't grab & maintain control of the steering wheel with my left hand WMR motion controller. I thought I would be able to steer with my left and control the speed with my right but wasn't able to. There were a few other issues like not being able to button map a boat reset option to external controllers via the menu, requiring the WMR motion controller to navigate the menu even when an external controller is connected, no clear active GPS travel indicator to help navigation between destinations. If you can overlook these cumbersome issues you may enjoy yourself. The game has great potential & would benefit from some additional features like av…

I can’t say enough, I love this boat sim/game. The waves are intimidating when you’re on a small boat. The realism is great and on my rig now with i9 and rtx2070 to it runs great. I do have some crashes but it’s expected in early access. I highly recommend it to anyone that wants to practice power boating or just to be on the water in those winter months. Keep up the great work!
