Awesome, engaging, simple and tactical at the same time. Already on my second run with a completely different team. I’ve put around 50 hours into the game during my first week and I’m still having a great time. You can play at your own pace, but don’t let the simple presentation fool you. Some levels can be genuinely challenging, especially on difficulty 3/4. What I really like is that some encounters require you to think outside the box. Sometimes you need to go back to town, change your items, skills or strategy, and give the level another shot. It feels great when you finally figure out the right approach. Really fun game, especially with friends. Definitely worth trying. Waiting for the next part :)

Had high hopes, bitterly disappointed in the end. Animal theme is very cool. The rest is poor. Advancing the buildings means little. The markets mean nothing because there's next to nothing to spend money on that makes any difference in the game. The affinity system is a waste of time. Most of the missions/combat are simplistic, those missions that aren't are multiple times harder to the point of being frustratingly difficult. The final battle is so much harder that I have no interest in retrying it.

we need a boardgame version of this game!

A noticed a lot of positive reviews were something like ‘played with friends and had fun’ and not to dig at that, but it wasn’t super helpful for me as someone who prefers solo experiences. So here’s my verdict after completing the first two acts of the game on normal difficulty: it’s pretty mediocre and I wouldn’t recommend it at it’s normal price. The basic gameplay is a turn based tactics game. You move your pieces, you choose a skill, rinse and repeat until some objective is met. Then there’s a very light base-building aspect stuck on as well and some character dialogs/conversations you can click through. The UI is functional but not amazing. There’s a couple locations on some maps that are actually somewhat difficult to click on because there can be so much UI stuff on the screen. There’s tons of options to undo moves if you make a mistake which is cool, but not one for movement, and probably twice per battle I’d accidentally make a wrong move because the game doesn’t do pathing based on shortest distance but rather based on where you wiggled your mouse. Similar to Gloomhaven, which is a very good thing. Highly recommend.
